Dartmoor bouldering guide
November 23, 2015, 09:34:39 pm

There's a fully definitive Dartmoor bouldering guidebook coming out next year, which grade would you prefer/expect?

V or Font?

Will be tricky - 'Devon V3' spans from Font 5+ to Font 7A  ;)

Why not use route grades? Or move the topic from chuffing entirely?

Stick with Hueco for my money. There's something very special about Dartmoor V9. Its so much harder than font 7C anywhere.

I think the best thing to do would be to invent a whole new grading system called B grades or something.

Is Death Jug Mantle getting an upgrade to 7a then?

I don't mind either system.  I'm kind of used to V on Dartmoor (and from climbing in US,  NZ etc) but font is fine too.

I didn't think that was too bad?!  Good flexibility helps...

For each problem I think a random choice should be made between V, font, P, B , John Gill's three tiered system that I've forgotten the name of and UK tech. As long as the grading systems are fairly evenly distributed over the problems you'll satisfy proponents for each system equally. It's the only fair way...

So 'next year' has almost gone.
Anyone have any insider knowledge on when this is actually expected to be released?

Latest info on the Climbers' Club's site; out early 2017.

There are some smart-looking sample pages too including Lustleigh Cleave. I really like the birds-eye view boulder diagrams. Don Sargeant's excellent work it seems.  :clap2:

Looking forward to this one.
