Lleida area accomodation?
November 17, 2015, 06:46:02 pm
Anyone got any pro-tips for accomodation in that area? I.e. just north of Lleida, for exploring a variety of crags in that part of Catalunya?

It would be for 2 people, fairly last minute, for a week max.

Self-catering / hostel / refugio is fine as long as it's not massive dorms full of snoring fuckers. Somewhere that's easy to find and get to and easy to book (preferably with someone who can understand a bit of English) would be ideal.

Ta!

I'm assuming you've already gone through those listed at and are looking for personal recommendations....

I stopped at [url=https://casamauri.wordpress.com/]Casa Mauri
for a week on Paul B's recommendation in 2013 (coincidentally whist Nike Air and his better half were also staying there).

Ticks most of your boxes (owner is English) with the exception of being at the end of a long windy road which adds ~20 minutes depending on fast you go round hair-pins.

Sub 10 min is possible; hire cars are the fastest cars in the world and all that...

Another nod for Jane's accommodation though - amazing location at the top of the hill - opportunities for cloud inversion photos abound

Thanks for that suggestion, however that's a bit far North and tucked away in the hills, we'd be keen to explore the crags closer to Llieda and Huesca, so accommodation around Balageur or Alfaras would be preferable.....

Monasterio de Santa Maria de Bellpiug de Avellanes, near to Balaguer is a nice place to stay. Great rooms, excellent food not too expensive and an amazing setting. Down side is its not in a village so you need to travel to eat, unless you eat there. The food and wine they produce is however excellent.

Nik at work managed to TT this to 10mins 30 secs ish with 5 people in plus climbing gear. Made more impressive by the fact the car was more like a small van

Think we managed to sub 10 it one year with a sporty BMW 1 series that had some kind dynamic traction control that allows more wheel slip.  However, I am now of the mindset that people should take it easy as there are sometimes cyclists and it is unfair on farmer on the flat section after McRae corner and before the corkscrew.
