I'm fed up with the weather in the UK, sooo if I sell my house I have about 25k, which it appears can buy a house in Spain. Anything from a dump in an olive grove to small town house.

Do folks reckon something an hour from Siurana would attract people/climbers to stay? thinking of renting a room out something along those lines.

ALora near Chorro is quite cheap.

Inland Murcia, Valencia are also cheap.

I've been looking at property in France too, but hadn't considered this area of Spain. A great spot to branch out from.

Will you be staying there? Will it be left unattended for any length of time?

I honestly don't know how big a problem this is, but a guy I met offshore has had big problems with squatters taking up residence. It might be a one-off, but it's worth looking into as there's a lot of youth unemployment and it's very, very difficult to evict once they get in. Apparently.

Brittany's considered to be expensive. I suggest looking anywhere else in France. Outside the cities and  SE obviously.

40k (euro) will get you a decent place in Cornundella, below Suirana. There is a women who negotiates with locals out there for quick sales. So they never go to market. I know of three recently that have gone for that.

Plus Euro is so crap at moment, that helps!

Thanks for replies. I've added Asturias to the mix. I guess I want somewhere near to an area that other climbers might want to stay/rent, wether be a room or whole house I'm not sure. So it needs to be near a popular sport area I guess. I would also like to be within 3 hours of a decent bouldering area, i.e. Aibarracin. The requirements are offered by buying in the South, I think. The north Galicia or Asturias offers something else, better I think, but less well known.

Personally, I wouldn't rent somewhere an hour from the climbing when you can get cheap accommodation near all of the popular venues. If you're going to go to Albarracin you will want to stay in the village. First and foremost I'd choose somewhere to buy that is where you want to be based. That will be depend on the type of climbing you enjoy (plenty of folk don't like Siurana), the time of year you expect to be there and what you can afford  (Calpe ticks lots of boxes in terms of weather and renting out to other people, but is relatively expensive).

I think the place has to near at least one decent climbing spot, then maybe an hour to drive other places is ok. Siurana if you can buy cheap looks a good option. Lots of sport climbing, potential to rent, El Cogul bouldering not so far and Albarracin three hours or so away.

I'm looking to relocate, to somewhere where other people might want to stay and thus give me some (small income). So yes needs to be near some climbing. Or plan B is Asturias/Galaicia, which looks good but is probably less attractive to the average sport climber, i.e. less well known.

  well Asturias and Galicia fit that description, not unknown, nor the next big thing, but looks like masses of bouldering and sport.

If you're thinking more about renting out a room to 1-2 people who are psyched on spending a few months or perhaps a season in Spain but want a base then I think you can be a bit more flexi and somewhere like Balaguer area could be prime (St Llorenc, Santa Linya, not too far from Oliana and Terradets and can get to the crags south of Lleida as well)

Very true. Currently I live in Cornwall and rent my house out as a holiday let 8 weeks in the summer and occasional airbnb lets other times. I was hoping a similar model might work in Spain, so a mixture of both.  If I got week bookings say I could move out and camp!
