Although the shop claim this is a climbing rope, Edelrid don't agree. They class it as a rope access rope in their 'safety' section, although it does conform to EN 892 the standard for climbing ropes.

Pretty naughty of GoOutdoors if you ask me.

Dynamic ropes aren't really used in rope access. If it passes EN 892 I can't see what the problem is - its a mountaineering standard not an industrial one. Sounds like a bargain to me.

Well granted it's unusual but not impossible to need a lead rope in access work, but I was curious so I contacted the distributor... the GoOutdoors 'Perfect' apparently is not the same as the Edelrid 'Perfect' I linked to. They tell me the G.O. one is a special run for certain retailers using a name not already taken in the Edelrid sport range but coincidentally used by one of their ropes marketed for access work. I guess the difference is down to the sheath as EN 892 gives it a fall rating.

Essentially a budget sport rope, with cheaper/softer sheath construction than the more high spec sport range.

I'll retract my comment about GoOutdoors.

I got one of these today, in fact I got two.

The Edelrid bumff that comes attached to the rope describes it as a 10mm single dynamic climbing rope 60m long.
The rest of the stats are:
Weight 66g/m
sheath proportion 36%
no. of falls 7
impact force 9,2 kN
dynamic elongation 31%
static elongation 8,4%
sheath slippage 0mm

I dunno how those stats compare to other ropes, I'm not a big rope geek as I generally just go cheap. I'm not expecting it to be the best rope in the world at that price though.

A 60m single for £50 has to be a bargain though, unless it truly is horrendous, and even in that case it can be a working/top-rope rope saving a better rope for redpoint. Got to be worth it, if you're after a cheap string I reckon it's worth a punt. And don't Edelrid have a pretty good rep?

I'll hand over to you lot to point out how I've been robbed blind by Go Outdoors now... ;)

Go Outdoors are also doing some bargain camping kit - if the prices quoted in the brochure that got stuffed through my letterbox this morning are to be believed.

I dunno how those stats compare to other ropes,

Impact force is definitely on the high side but that's not a great concern for sport climbing. Other stats pretty standard.

Although as I'm sure you know JB, the stats mean absolutely Jack in the real world.

Just picked one of these up as well. Looks pretty good and was very cheap! Hopefully it should be good for short UK routes and working routes.

I bought a 70m for about 80 quid a while back and it's not been used that much - one end is going a bit fluffy already, so I'm not optimistic about the durability.
