I gave up on one box coz I only ( :roll: ) had 500mb free on my c: drive which was deemed not enough space for the install, which I thought was ridiculous for a service pack install.

Now I'm going to hang on a bit for user reports that it's stable first.

i wouldn't know what not stable was? but yeah it went on fine. am now in the process of putting more albums than bubba on it, tho i need to pop out n buy myself a 200g hard drive!

I don't think you can have too much music really, though I've got to start archinving stuff before I have another disc crash - the last one lost me about 400 hours worth of tunes  :twisted:

One of my friends has nearly 2TB now, but he has a lot of DVD images and films, as well as a LOT of mp3s.

Most of my storage is on my p2p server box which is an old p3 - it's already got heat and space problems so really need to get another cheap pc with a big case before I get any more. I reckon you just fill whatever you've got though, and so just end up having more to lose if you ever have a crash or your house gets burgled.

What would be nice now would be a blue-laser dvd burner for doing backups at 20gig odd per disc. Bet they're more than a bit pricey at the moment though.

my home PC is a P200 a mate gave me cos it were too crap for him.

I don't know size of hard drive it's got though Dave's microwave would no doubt beat it in a straight line, unless I wound the elastic band up really tight.

I managed to get it hooked up to the net on a dial-up but now it runs so slow it won't even open up explorer properly, seems to have a load of .exe files mashing it up - something to do with 2 single men using it to browse the net???

Strip it down, install win2k and use firefox not explorer.  Oh, and clean that crusty mess off the keyboard....

hardley ever crashes on me, and never sends any info to MS without me allowing it to  :wink:

I remember when I had a couple of mates living at my house for a while, I said "just use the computer, It's always on." The history was somewhat disturbing

since this thread has become a "my hard drive is bigger than yours" I just thought I'd ask how you are running many drives.  I have two 120Gb drives, which are both now full, so I obviously need more.  However, you can only have 2 drives per ribbon so I'm now facing the prospect of losing a disc drive or something in order to have another hard drive.  Is there a more reasonable way to add another couple of 200gb drives?  A second PC like Bubba has sounds like a good option and I guess it safeguards your collection even further from getting infected and fucked!

Unless you have a really small PSU then no. My 350W is running:
