Summer European Bouldering Roadtrip
July 07, 2015, 08:26:51 pm
I'm thinking of doing a little tour round some of Europe's bouldering areas next summer (around July time) after finishing uni. Currently thinking of heading to Font (I know it will be hot but not really bothered), Chironico, Magic Wood, Val di Mello and Ailefroide. Can anyone give me some recommendations for other areas that might be good to look at. Ideally I'm looking for:
-places that I can drive between within 10 hours
-places with a decent guidebook
-somewhere with relatively cheap accommodation would be nice
-places to keep me interested for 3-4 days
Any problem recommendations would also be welcome. I have bouldered up to 7B+ but I'd like to work some 7Cs.

I've been considering Albarracin and it is somewhere I really want to visit. Bit worried how hot it will be in late July though

Lofoten. If the bouldering guidebook is out by then.

Albarracin, Chironico and Cresciano will be boiling.
Val di Mello could be good but still hot.
Magic Wood is a very good bet. As is Ailefroid.
Sustenpass also.
Frankenjura?

Targasonne is at altitude and although hot during the day is perfect in the mornings/ evenings. Not sure about the quality in the grade range you're looking for, I'll have a look in the guide when I get home. Good camping too.

I'll second Magic Wood. I've been in July and it was pretty perfect, conditions-wise.

Silvapark in Austria could also be an option. It is located at 2000m above sea level so you should get decent conditions even in the middle of summer.
