EU funding rebolting of kalymnos

http://climbkalymnos.com/rebolting-to-start-in-kalymnos-later-this-year/#more-9646

Mr. Farage would love this one.

We should apply here! All bolts in UK to be replaced with top rate glue ins, belays replaced and routes cleaned in aid of the tourist board.

Anyone know of a company who might be interested in carrying out the paperwork side of getting the money. I  might know of one happy to carry out the contract.

And before anyone asks i am fully pro EU, but they do seem good at spending money in hard to justify ways. It even appears to be funding new routes.

In what way?

Lots of tourism $$$$ and developing the local economy out of season for a very small amount of investment, seems like perfect pump priming to me.

Imagine if FDR (if indeed it was FDR, my mind is porridge at present due to reviewing 100s of pages of commercial contracts) hadn't paid for the roads into Yosemite. . . .

For the record, the last official rebolting program was nearly five years ago, so to say it’s long overdue is an understatement.

 that's an absurd statement. 5 years is nothing, barely time for the glue to set on a Gibson route.. (eh Shark..)

I have not been there myself but can't believe it benefits that many people.

What did they do before climbers arrived?

And surely if it's the local businesses that benefit so much they should pay for it. Put 50cent on the price of every beer.

Probably very little outside the tourist season which is now extended. Imagine if Sunderland council built three fuck off reefs off The Roker ...

Bournemouth council did it. Could have built a school with the money.

Abject failure.

I think the problem there was the design of the reef failed.

My god, it'd be a paradise.

Can't see the issue with Kalymnos personally, I can imagine the local bolters are overwhelmed by the traffic the place gets.
