connect 4 bolt
March 02, 2015, 10:11:33 am
The hanger on the third bolt of connect 4 (at Malham) has turned sideways and is bent (possibly due to my great weight falling on it).  As the nut holding it on is rusty (therefore it is not possible to tighten it) and the bolt is in a stupid place, would there be enthusiasm for it being chopped and replaced in a better place?

Makes a lot of sense but the no-bolting period started yesterday.

BTW Ian Dunne re-bolted Bolt Revolt last week so there is a new warmup available now.

That is really disappointing is that for nesting?

I think the bolt is verging on unsafe and you would definitely deck out if the hanger snapped.

Re-Retro bolting Bolt Revolt would seem like a bit of a shame. :worms:

I disagree, seems sensible to me. Best use of that bit of crag.

The bolting agreement with the Malham Parish Council (the owners) in Feb. 2008 is no bolting at weekends, during the main school summer holiday or during the nesting restriction (which)apply from  1 March - 30 June.

So someone, say, who went up a lot mid-week might be able to do it.

I've no issue problem putting one in but I'm unlikely to be there in July and I would strongly recommend no one does anything sneaky - someone got their knuckles rapped for drilling last thing on a weekday evening last year.

i'd do as follows:

1) hang a sign on the 1st bolt saying which bolt looks dangerous and should not be fallen onto

2) Possibly, take all hangers off except the 1st bolt, and wait for the end of the no bolt period.

The second (the older of the two at the second bolt is anyway) and third hangers are rusted on (I can't remember the state of the fourth)
