Heroes - Baslow
December 08, 2012, 06:09:45 pm
Went and did this today after Leeroy did a good job of giving it a scrub. Thought it would be worth letting people know about its quality and the fact it's now clean. We did it with an amazing sequence getting either a high or low right heel on the right side and bringing right hand over on to the awesome crimp on the left side.

Longer instructions
on how to do this a more complicated way, and with more mouse clicks...and which doesn't actually work if you try it on the photo above under Backlinking Flickr the Easy Way

Fixed that for ya.  ;)

Always looked at this and thought it looked ace. May have a whirl during the holidays.
Now for a bit of shameless self promotion- If anyone's headed down that way try the two obvious lines on the downhill side of the flatworld block (take 3 mats)- they're not that hard but are really good and provide a wee bit of spice at the top  ;)

Perhaps, but at least you are then complying with the Flickr T&C and backlinking to the source as stipulated (at least when I read them several years ago when I signed up).

They probably don't work for you as you're not logged in to Flickr as Ben Norman, but I expect they probably work for b3n99 when they're logged into Flickr.

Did this yesterday. Good prob. Deffo two fairly distinct ways up the prow, direct up prow at about 7b and up the LHS at maybe 7a.
Though having said that, looking at your second pic it looks like you figured a sequence somewhere between the two we did  :-\. I guess it's one of those ones which blends a bit, all good climbing though.

We tried to go pretty direct although ended up coming right hand over to good crimp, matching and then going back right. Was a really nice sequence and felt about right at the grade. Could definitely see a different option going left earlier but the harder more direct line seemed more obvious.

Where did your direct go?

Climb out to crimp with LH, cutloose, right heel on right arete, bounce RH to higher bit on right arete, swing left heel onto left arete (crux), go again with LH to slot/jug, right heel on right arete, RH break.

My previous post pretty much has all the beta. When I spoke to John W it sounded like this was roughly the way he did the Prob.

had a play this monday, with the fin/block to the right for feet, it comes out at a very nice 6b+ish problem, well worth doing if your not climbing in the 7's will definitely be back to get the 7b version though.

Did this today. Good feature, the jug slot on the left side tends to dominate things though, so trying to climb more on the front of the prow but still using the jug slot for LH seems a bit contrived. I did a version where you get the jug slot with  RH then rock back up left (get there by bringing both hands to R side of prow with a toe hook on the other side), and a harder version getting the jug slot with LH via similar means then slapping up to a sticky out bit in the break up and right. Neither touched the right hand side/arete after the bit that the guy's heel is on on the above photos. For my money the way forcing yourself to stay under and climb right on the end maybe needs doing eliminating the jug slot.
