Welsh bouldering near dolgellau
November 04, 2014, 01:26:06 pm
Going here on holiday in April with the family and was wondering if there's any good bouldering nearby, ideally within 30 mins drive.

Would be looking for problems in the v5-7 range however would be interested in lower grade classics for when I'm knackered at the end of the week.

I know very little about welsh bouldering apart from reading about the pass cave and port ysgo ( probably spelt wrong!).

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Also if anyone could point me in the right direction for lava bread that would be great too I couldn't find anywhere that sold it last time I was in Wales. im sure it's going to taste grim but have always wanted to try it

Cae Du should be within striking range of Dolly... Great spot... though coastal so exposed etc..

Ive looked up some images of Cae du on ukc, looks awesome!
Im a bit concerned that it won't be in condition when a climbing window opens up but hopefully ill drop on and get to climb there.

Being coastal it'll dry super fast in any wind.. though if theres too much wind!!!
The campsite right next to it is a gem...

I deserve a  :jab: for forgetting Cae Du, having actually been there whilst staying in Dolgellau. It's hardly a mecca for V5-7 but it's a lovely spot and nice bouldering. Sunbeach nearby has some decent looking problems too, see UKC for details.
