JAM - a rather esoteric technique generally relegated to curiosity or a party peice. Used when required to climb space where rock isn't, rather than rock itself.

Foot faggotry = cunning technique.
Lay on on = optimistic slap
mule = pull like a donkey rather than using some foot faggotry.
booze cruise = start off nicely then end up all over the shop.
Mince = slab climbing eg pull over the lip then mince to the top.
Get your wings = tak erepeated long falls
get your brown wings = take repeated long falls from a trouser filling position.

Yorkshire power dab - subtle, momentary touch down that aids ascent, hard to spot if done expertly.

I've heard the exact definitions of 'match' and 'share' disputed at great length.

I've always thought match meant bringing your trailing hand to a similar level as the leading hand, hands not touching, whilst share meant to actually have both hands touching each other on one hold, perhaps just prior to a 'piano change'. Other folk seem to believe that they have essentially the same meaning (i.e. the latter definition).

press
cup
hook
palm
bar
deadpoint
lock
stack
cross through/rose
wedge
flick
cam
shuffle
hug

You can also add various body parts to most of these.

Some regional cheats:

Bristol heel - usually on sit-start or trav with low feet, carefully place toe on then lower heel into grass for a drastically improved hold

Northumberland spot - "why man am watchin yee' whilst supporting waist of climber

Gay legs - I think it's fairly obvious what this means
Quick hands - I've never worked out what this means but it sounds good.
Fred - I think everyone understands this.

Aaah, the gay leg, I didn't know the term had spread so far. The ultimate dropknee when you end up pulling up using the top of your foot, Sick - the prob left of Piss being the classic example.

Tend to use gay legs as a descriptor for any foot faggotry on steep rock - used in terms of 'no, you need to be more gay on that problem'.

the main benefit of Hawking's condition of course is that he can hold a telephone receiver whilst leaving both hands free for other stuff.

Seriuosly though, i fully rate hawking, both as a dope MC, and as a kick-ass thoeretical physicist. Everyone needs to read, or try to read The Universe in a Nutshell.

how about 'Full body smear' as an alternative for thrutching?

as a shortie, i commonly use the 'hand spider' - i.e. on a slab, can't quite reaaacccch the top but find some way of walking up it with whichever hand is free.

Currently the only way I can do Pebble Arete t'other side and Pacman.

like it  :hyper:

perhaps we could have

Keller v to climb like Hellen Keller, i.e. blind, unco-ordinated and making grunting noises

Deacon v. an inverted gaston in fron of the chest (see Joey Deacon)

Maan, he was like soooo Hawking, blunketted over the lip foxed around  before decaoning and throwing a keller for the jug.

I've heard "float move" used on 2 climbing films and I think it means a dyno but when one hand stays on the rock.
