Hope he has done it, its really a good effort. Nice one malc.
Ithink its supposed to be around font 8b but not really sure, sounds hard for 8b, i think i heard ben had said it was font 8b or summit, after coming really close years ago. but may be wrong.
Best giving it a french grade and 9a sounds hard enough.
have to get some fo these spainiards over test their fitness out in it.

Yes I spoke to Malcolm today and he has confirmed that the Big Link is now Pilgrimage. He feels that F9a is more appropriate than V14.

I saw Malc just after he'd done it, and it's fair to say he was a bit chuffed. Incredible effort by the man, the determination is inspirational.

Speaking to Malc yesterday when he came down to LPT, he said a route grade of F9a was more appropriate as there was nothing harder than Font 7c+ on it, just long sections hard climbing, more like a sport route than a boulder problem

uh oh, not the old boulder problem/route grade issue... i think you just need to think with more versatility. A grade is simple to give an idea of the difficulty of climbing a certain piece of rock. Whatever grade describes the said piece of rock with the best accuracy is fine, no matter what the grade is normally used for.
Anyway, this is a mighty fine effort, and it would be really interesting to hear from the big man himself about his thoughts on the problem...

regarding the rocktalk thread, i had alook and i think it's a case of that forum being less elitist/specialised than this one. This is dedicated to bouldering after all and rocktalk is more open to non-bouldering types. you might think they're talking c~ck but they are intitled to there opinions whether you agree with them or not. You lot do sound a bit elitist soemtimes. Take it easy!

I don't go round dissing and pulling apart the achievements of mountaineers, or windsurfers, or of any other branch of a sport that I'm not familiar with, so people who don't know fuck all about bouldering shouldn't start giving grief to somebody who pulls off a major bouldering ascent.

its nowt to do with people not being "bouldering types", its about some people being blinkered cocks. I'm not an alpine or greater ranges type, but i don't go around websites making out that type of climbing is of no value when a new alpine route is claimed!
