Yeah I was hoping it was the same - I presumed I couldn't get done. It was in a hire car though.

It's even more tricky that all of the paperwork is in french and I'm pretty shit at french!

Having had a couple of tickets in France, whilst driving hire cars; the company usually just bill the card you hired the car with.
I've certainly never heard anymore about it, though the last one was about 4 years ago.

Actually, that's a rather good point. I wonder why they didn't? Guess I'd better check!

Damn it.... after all my avoiding of UK average speed cameras, I just got done on (well, I've received the notification in the post from France) one outside of Chamonix on the motorway! Arse. I didn't even know they had cameras there.

Swings and roundabouts eh?!

Er, interesting.  I believe that the UK has refused to sign up to this scheme, and so you don't have to pay.  Is that still true?

(Was it a french registered car?  That might change things.)

Yes there's an opt out and it is in place, but from memory I think this was on the grounds of cost of implementation & IT problems which I expect in the future will be seen as insufficient to allow opt out so we'll have this in due course I expect. (although I am no expert on EU law).

Three pages of discussion and I'm not sure if anybody has actually said what needs to be said yet.

It's not speeding if there's no works going on ie reducing to 50 on mway while works are going on during day is fine and dandy but just wrong if it's the middle of night with no works taking place, for instance

On the A1 northbound near Alnwick last week they put in a 50 limit, and the only think there was some cones on the central reservation. But still, best be on the safe side eh, don't want anyone driving past a cone (that's not even on the carriageway) at 70.

Probably due to the dates on the Order reducing the speed and then the contractors not being able to start, in fact if I was planning I'd have a week before the planned date and three weeks afterwards to cover eventualities  But yes it does look daft, remember John Major's vacant initiative, the 'cones hotline' from memory virtually no cones / restrictions were deemed unnecessary

I once got flashed on the way into Paris from Font and on the way out again late that night (there are cameras on both sides of the road). I've been snapped a couple of other times in France as well. And had a couple of parking tickets. No problem. Just don't get an on-the-spot fine.

I paid the fine, which seemed pretty straight forward online. Fortunately so far, I don't seem to have had an admin charge from the hire car company as well. I was only 4km/hr over the limit as well.... ugh. I'm not that much of a criminal! ;-)
