Megagrip
July 27, 2004, 05:32:04 pm
I bought some megagrip in Font last and realised that its still being made in this country.  My mate tried to get hold of some at the website but to no avail.  Does anyone know where I can buy some?

I thought it had been taken off the shelves after it was found to have resin in. Incidentally, I've heard that the The Great Arete in Bangor sells resin- a friend of mine was recommended some when he went in!

If you can't get Megagrip, try the Millet version as that has resin in it too and is basically the same stuff. There was a tester bottle floating around at the Castle but I dunno what happened to it.

I dont think you should be using resin mate- apparently it clogs up the rock. If you find chalk less effective at the end of a long session wash your hands and then chalk up again (stops the pores clogging up).

Isn't the whole megagrip / resin thing just a myth?

if it did have pine resin in it, would it not just be sticking the chalk to your hand, rather than sticking anything to the rock?

Try here,

This is not the same stuff.

As far as I'm aware this stuff is not poff and like all of you I would never use it on UK rock.  I find that because I've not been climbing much over the last year my skin is piss poor.  The megagrip just adds a layer that stops my pinkies from hurting.  I have not seen any evidence that it leave a layer or any deposits on the rock............could be wrong though

I think the stuff you are looking for is called Liquid Chalk. It comes from the company (Sid) Megagrip.

As far as I know Sids liquid chalk has no resin,  but the Millet and Beal ones list resin in the ingredients.

edit Sorry just looked at the link above. I think the original Megagrip liquid (small Tipex size bottle) may have had resin, it had a funny smell anyway.

i would buy a bottle for the smell alone. i find that liquid chalk (aka sid's jizz) is even better than the mega-cheat which i think he's stopped doin, tho could be wrong. i never leave home without it, only cos i wouldn't be able to pull on if i did :D
