Heeley/Meersbrook/Woodseats ticking more boxes with a big Virgin gym 5 minutes walk from the Works for your girlfriend.  Aldi nearby too, Tescos and Sainsbury's not far either.

I'd agree pretty much with all of this too, Meersbrook is probably your best bet based on all your main criteria. Dore and Totley are some of the smartest neighbourhoods in Sheffield but as Jasper says, you'll be doing really well to get something there in budget.

I'd also on reflection avoid Hillsborough if nothing else than the traffic at rush hour is chronic getting anywhere if driving to work in S7.

This made me think.

Since 1993 I've lived in S7, S8, S2 and S11 -  always within walking distance of The Broadfield

Thank goodness it's been smartened up

Thanks for the help everyone, I'm going to hold out for another week and then I think we'll have to start looking at flats.

What's S2 like? Quite a few things are coming up but some have parking signs up, so is a lot of it permit only? Is it a bit rougher because it's closer to the centre?

It's rougher because it closer to The  Manor estate.

I've lived in S2 for 15 years now, it's nowhere near as bad as I thought it would be before moving here. Very convenient for town,  although you do have a bit further to go to get out to the Peak.

Just a word of warning about slackers chain, meant in a good way he's a bit of a hippy, a free thinker if you will. He would have something good to say about living in a skip. I on the other hand wouldn't, nor would I live in S2  ;)

(I'm also a cheapskate and bought my 3-bedroom semi for £45k).

Haha, thanks for the heads up, what about S2 on the left side of the A61? I see that the postcode covers a big area over on the right but I've not been looking in that area.

I think they've had enough money to smarten it up based on your custom alone!

My brother bought a house across the road earlier this year which is the middle of a three house terrace, he paid £87k for his.*  :tease:

* He actually already owned a semi in the street when I bought mine (they were all new builds at the time) but sold it when he married some mad Irish bint and moved to Eire, a long story that doesn't need explaining.

we've just moved from this road - lived there for 6 years (Mrs Jaspersharpe lived across the road for a while and my mother in law had our old house for 17 years before us)

only issue for me was parking on match days (and schools)

Thanks for that.

No issues with crime or anything like that? Seems good value for money otherwise. I've used your beta before with success but that was on boulder problems!

From this list I would probably go for either the Glen Road property (close to work, Broadfield, small Morrisons nearby and a short walk to the Works) or the Warwick Street one in Crookes (nice enough area though perhaps a bit penned in by student properties around it). The Mulehouse Road looks ok but again probably a lot of students in the neighbourhood. The Grindstone used to be a nice pub nearby but I've heard its gone downhill.

This place looks good too http://www.rightmove.co.uk/property-to-rent/property-31148610.html

:agree: I've had one bike nicked from the shed in 15 years and over that time have forgotten to lock doors overnight/when going out and continue to find the car unlocked (even though my wife has the one remote locker/key that we have to the car) and never had anything taken.

You've said elsewhere that you've had the same pad for 15 yrs. Maybe they think you're not much of a target. Good job they don't know about your bunker  ;)

I wish you'd never told me about the crime map. I think I'd be afraid to leave the missus at home during the day looking at these stats and I thought we lived in a bad area! I'm struggling to find an area that hasn't got bad crime stats according to that map!
