The World Cup thread
May 28, 2014, 05:41:32 pm
Just to save everyone a lot of time and tub thumping.

1. England will get knocked out in the early stages,
2. The media will then pillory the players, management, English football and the lack of fit whores in the host city distractions of playing away a European climate.
3. There will be thousands of chavvy plastic flags in landfill by September.

[Ends]

Not so much controversial as a bit "ukc".  That forum will soon be replete with people devoting great effort to telling everyone how little they care about football, and how anyone who does is a philistine and mental pygmy (whilst, of course not missing any opportunity to mention that they do not own a television!).

I've still got my plastic flags from last time

also got 2 vuvuzelas

was "tub thumping" a reference to the caxirolas?

we've got 2 TVs and 4 footballs

M jnr proudly announced that in the event of an England-Germany match he is taking two vuvuzelas to the biergarten and (to my surprise) supporting England.

I don't think he has quite grasped the concept of probability just yet. Or time zones.

Can we make it more interesting by having Andy Townsend dissected live (both him and the TV) during half time. Preferably without any anaesthetic and using blunt cutting implements. Please.

Hopefully the dissection will prove that, as suspected, he has absolutely no neck.

As long as someone says ' it's not the Brazil of old' I'll be happy.

We don't have a telly, and I don't see that as a bad thing.  Now, where did I leave my slippers?

I'm going to buy a new TV and eat as much World Cup as possible with my eyes.  :dance1: :dance1: :beer2: :beer2:   :pissed:

Sloper, you've no idea what you're on about as per. How England get on is largely irrelevant. It's the World Cup FOR FUCK'S SAKE and it's brilliant.

This is the first one that the sprog is taking an interest in which is fantastic mainly because it's giving me an excuse to spend a fortune on these....

His mates at school are all collecting them too, "got, got, got, NEED!" brings back memories.

EDIT - ha ha, nice one slackers.

"Buying a box of 500 stickers" is not on though. Just because you can afford to you still have to buy a few packs at a time to do it properly!

I don't see not owning a TV as a bad thing either.  Smuggly announcing it at every opportunity, in a manner that suggests the poster thinks it denotes their great intelligence, is just a trope of UKC threads.

Paninimania : sticker rarity and cost effective strategy  :geek:

Reading through that the fact that everyone at my junior school had at least 10 bloody David May was pure fluke he did not appear in every pack of stickers

I note the article is not dated but references a document from 2010 so may not be true of 1995

i remember there being a shortage of one sticker at my school (cant remember which) - so much so that no one had ever even seen one. i went to stay with some of my parents friends and their son had about 5 of them. it was the equivalent of a david may at his school. obviously i took the lot and made hay on monday.

does the study take geographic variations into account? maybe the boxes werent as mixed up as they should have been at the factory...

re: buying a whole box. there was a rich kid at my school who had a whole box at his house. it seemed to take the fun out of the whole thing...

Rich kids buying up boxes of panini stickers so they get to own all the good ones and can use them for leverage with other kids at school is all you need to know about Capitalism in a nutshell. That's really why Sloper started this thread.

Got. Actually I think we have two.

Can we start a UKB sticker exchange for swaps? Actually let's just use this thread as the original premise was dogshit and needed taking off topic anyway.

 :goodidea:

We have about 320 unique swaps so there's a 50/50 chance I can supply what anyone needs. We only need about 100 but vowed not to buy any more after we totted up how much we'd spent.

Dead bad needs:

Boubacar Barry (Ivory Coast's excellently named keeper)
Kevin Prince-Boateng (Ghanaian utility man)
Glen Johnson
Mathieu Debuchy
No. 5 (bottom half of the mascot shiny)

 ;D
