This week I am mostly listening to the debut lp by The Early Years which was at last released on monday. Neu! meets The Velvet Underground - Quality.

I've just bought The Animal Years by Josh Ritter. Can't recommend it enough, a great album and a must have for anybody who likes that lyrically-dexterous-singer-songwriter thang.

Check out Girl in the War:

JB, liked the Early Years rec. I could just imagine myself cruising along the A55, Parisella's bound with that blasting out of the speakers.

Nice. My current favourite driving track is 'The Simple Solution' from their BBC sessions. Must remember to put it on when I'm on the A55 tonight...

Amazing!! Nice one soapy! I've seen Autechre in Manchester live only once, but it exceeded my expectations by a loooong way, it was absolutely banging bravva. As for seeing LFO, that's a long time wish come true. Jimmy Edgar too, quality! I'm releasing a lot of fresh sperm here.

I'll let you have all those dates bar the boxing day one. If you're going to be in liverpool on that day, there is usually a far more important affair going down called Valhalla hosted at the zanzibar. If anythings confirmed and you're going to be around those parts, you should come party.

Nice one Soaps.  Sharp edges, just the way we like it!

By-the-buy Soaps: Surgeon will be playing with the remarkable Ben Sims (and the groovesome Mark Broom & Joris Voorn, and Chris Finke) @ the SPLIT 3rd Birthday party @ The Key in Kings Cross, London (an old and beautiful ex-cinema).  Book early to avoid disappointment.

Certainly not!  I shall insist on London Lady by The Stranglers played as loud as the system will allow!

(Though I'm finding that most agreeable!)

London Lady

Though I don't wish to imply my lady is from London or bears any significance to this song.  I'd like it at my funeral too!

Just so you realise how good they were (should anyone not already) here's Goodbye Toulouse

One for Bonjoy:   B O L T   T H R O W E R !!

Generally speaking - I really don't mind what tastes people have - as long as they can explain why they like or dislike something.  However, with the UK metalists Bolt Thrower, I fail to conform to my own rules.  I've no idea why I like this band.  Perhaps it's their Maiden-like twin guitar riffage that lights my fire? Maybe it's their complete fascination with war, honour and glory?  Don't get me wrong, they ain't Manowar!  Either way, despite my confusion, I love 'em!

Get some Bolt Thrower down ya!  Here's No guts, no glory.  And The Kill Chain.

All their records can be found on the excellent Birmingham (historical home of all UK extreme music) label, Earache.  my favourite is:

The Peel Session LP rocks too!

Just a little gift from me to you - because I care!

TODD - Butlers' Portion. (From the Purity Pledge LP)   I can't think directly but the mp3 is there on the right hand side.  Enjoy!

I've spent much of the last week trailing through the Kompakt site and acquiring a lot of music. HAVE to get to Berlin! Seems the Germans like nothing better than attending a plethora of minimal house nights, excellent. Any particular recommendations from our men in the know?

I came across (no! why can't you say that phrase anymore!?) an Argentinian producer by the name of Franco Cinelli who is rather good.

With thanks Gentlemen. The other day, a few of us were bemoaning the lack of warehouse parties nowadays. We stumbled across one recently in Liverpool and it was fantastic, but other than that there has been a serious dearth of industrially influenced good times of late. Are the Germans still big into this format?

sorry for roaming mildly o.t

In the summer it is generally a little more difficult to get stunning club nights as the machinery moves outdoors for the festival and free-party scene.   I can't speak for the nexus of German Techno, Frankfurt (and latterly Berlin) but it's certainly the case for Hamburg.  Fuck going to Bayern for techno.  Austria is better if you are going south.

A close ex-pat DJ friend of mine, Dave X, originally came to Germany around a dozen years ago with little more than a satchel of records and his toothbrush.  He recalls many free (and pay to enter) illegal raves in the vast, VAST!  labyrinth of underground tunnels and bunkers under the streets of Berlin.  As he says - those were very much the days...  And alas, Tresor (www.tresor-berlin.de) has died as a venue.  They still release records mind.  In general a 'dry' tech sound, but they are spreading their wings all the time.  Tresor is dead!  Long live Tresor!
