Never.   Techno has always been an aetheist artform.    (Tuomas would turn poor Gaskins to the Devil.)

I really do like the work of the Finn Tuomas Rantanen, more so as there are very few quality producers working at the extreme end of techno.  Rantanen is one such guy, he releases bugger all; what he does put out is stella, I think.

Tuomas Rantanen LIVE PA for Emissions #2 originally broadcast on Finnish radio.

It's a bit sedate....where's me cardie...

Houdini:  You can be so thick.

The picture is Arnie in Predator.  The significance is his watch (see left wrist).  This was one of the Barraclough hand made originals,  designed to British Standard 978 Part 2: Cycloidal Type Gears.  These watches were made from titanuium at a factory in Leeds until 1986, and are now very hard to find.  A Barraclough Callibrated TimePieceTM recently sold at the market for nearly a pony.

Hope that helps.

All right sweethearts!

I'll leave the mp3's a while before I capsize this thread under a hundredweight of techno - but before that may I recommend one last outing with my most favoured producer, Surgeon.  I would say that this show equals the NECK FACE studio mix (which is excellent) & currently available in the media section of his site www.dj-surgeon.com (same set was plugged before by another).

Surgeon - Interface 17 1st LA appearance Nov 06  c.130mins / 180MB / 256Kbps

I love Surgeon's pace; quite slow really.

Plus - from the same night

Richard Devines' set (warp)  48mins / 58 MB / 256 Kbps

Enjoy.

Rarely do I venture to the hallowed ground of this thread - my knowledge of techno being non-existent - Neverless, at the moment I like the cat empire

I thought it would be best that there was no distinction between any of the music on this thread.

Duma, there is country music, pop, rock, rap (French, too ), Grime, filth, scum, d+b, house, IDM, electro, old skool, neu-classic so many.

So in view of the fact that Duma (& possibly others, Andy Popp?) may not view this thread as it's well-techy (no idea how) I think I'll start a new thread just for electronica, and return this thread to cofe and Crosby, Stills and Nash.  OK?

Complaints re the above?

Tho perhaps not till page 100.

'dini - the fault is all my own, be not afeared! Re country, I'd like to nominate Creedence Clearwater Revival, especially "lookin' out my back door", though "proud mary" and "bad moon rising" are worth a look, and while we're on the subject, crosby stills nash and young wrote the never to be forgotten track "fontainebleau" - Oh Yeah.

CCR are part of my youth.  I particularly dig a later LP of John Fogerty.  John Fogerty rocks fo sho.  I feel the same about The Long Riders and also, yes!  Bachman Turner Overdrive.

Country, better than the blues yet almost but not quite as significant as Americas' rtock output.  Dig country, people.

Dolly Parton's flat picking style is also quite sublime.

Glad you like erstlaub houdini - just for you here is a remix of On Becoming An Island called Dark Archipelagos which strangely enough is rather good indeed.

Something else I have found while looking for erstlaub related stuff is someone called Stray Ghost - probably not as good as erstlaub overall but well worth checking out the first track Flight which is stunningly good.

Actually the highpointlowlife label who are responsible for both of the above is well worth checking out IMO - the downloads section it has some really interesting stuff for the more discerning lover of noise/electronica/all round good music.

For those of you who prefer your music to be a bit more subtle and generally something your neighbours might not complain about excessively then I recommend the truly excellent minimalist music of Labradford - probably the pick of their albums is Fixed Context but buy any of their last three albums and you won't go far wrong.

Dig country, people.

Not a huge fan of country but I will throw Calexico into the mix as a token effort - any of their albums are more than worthy of playing but my personal favourite would have to be Hot Rail - an album that epitomises their mix of Americana and Mariarchi music and it has one great album cover to boot too.

Dunno what it is about that cover but I love it...

Excellent choice Sir, I believe I've plugged them earlier, but this thread's a lumbering behemoth, and it's great to be reminded.

Personally I favour Prazision which was recently re-released, and their eponymous LP*, which ended their more instrument-based/ period (great use of reverb) and marked the start of a more laptoppy/weird bongly 6-string bass/ambient sound they've been mining for a while.  (I found the Mi Media Naranja LP too ambient, not a bad thing by any means but so different from their previous works.  The E Lux Soso LP was divine to my ears.)

*

Anyone who likes the sound of this really must visit Brainwashed which details all their releases and has mp3 samples.

But yeah, such a great great band, very much a watching the lights dance on the walls from an open fire as you shoot heroin/drink a little wine. -affair.  Lush.

Keep reading about BURIAL.  Never heard them - or at least I think I haven't.  Found an interesting interview

Underground music should have its back turned, it needs to be gone, untrackable, unreadable, just a distant light.

Thoughts?

Check some of the recomendations on this thread Houdinininini.  If I could edit my pick of 2007 thread I would have nominated their latest as one of the best from last year - it's a real grower.
