Time again for some smooth techno from Marco Carola - Live at Hardwired 9/9/07

And while you're downloading, watch this wonderful little video of marco carola doing his thing. Why can't I always be at a party like this at 10am?

With around 5 seconds remaining in the clip, I thought that was you and you'd shaved your head.

I have just seen Ivan Smagghe at Space in Ibiza. He was good, but not a patch on Mills, who was incredible. The following evening was Sven and Richie at Cocoon.

what with talk of gig tickets at £150 - £800...
went to the Kid Acne album launch last night. it was free. it was outdoors on a warm night. we were handed a copy of the new album (CD and Vinyl - pro liggers!) and some stickers in return for an email address.
we drank 1919 rum and slam danced / bodypopped in our hoodies until thoroughly baked.

 :bounce: :pissed:

brilliant night. props to Lex Records and The Shakespeare Pub and Kid Acne and a nice crowd for a FREE gig to remember!

please check out the myspace page and in particular the track - oh no you didn't

Snippet taken from the pitchfork review;

"I'll admit that it's a concept that it's not exactly easy to get one's head around, but the end product is so appealing, so immersive, so gratifying, so stimulating in all of your pleasure centers-- in other words, it's not at all unlike dancing to one of Villalobos' own DJ sets, with the stipulation that you're being treated to that rarest of rarities, a DJ set composed only of the artist's own material, which were you in attendance in the club that night, would surely blow your puny, raving mind-- that I'm willing to give him, and it, the benefit of the doubt. What, after all, is an album any more? Nobody seems to know; the only thing clear is that it's not as easy to sell as a ringtone. Villalobos gives us something better: an experience."

There are definitely some very good tracks on this. It's quite an interesting album actually in that it seems to go to different places whilst always moving in the same direction. I would suggest you seek out a copy.

Had a listen through Fabric 36 - I like the last half when it starts to get a bit more interesting, but i found the first half a bit too bleepy and ploddy. I'm not a big fan of some of the more bleepy minimal techno that's around of late, though i'm not denying it's quality.

Today i've been liking:

Tunng - Good Arrows (Full Time Hobby)

Quality Folk + == me like :)

Bleep description: Tunng’s best album yet. Rattling, electronic folk-styled songs with a creepy undercurrent of League of Gentlemen/Monty Python-esque very British humour, and a seductive level of production and songwriting that lulls you in. A country mile away from the ‘Scarborough Fair’ whimsy of other nu-folk peddlers.

Just heard Mission of Burma on 6 music, and I just had to flag this band up for all you discerning lovers of angst ridden guitar rock. This was seminal stuff back in the early 80s and it still sounds strong today (at least to my ears).

Here's some Youtube links. Try and ignore the dodgy films and just listen. There is also an amped up Moby cover version with a better attempt at a visual accompaniment - I like the bit at the end when he stops running because he gets a stitch.

I've just got into Dreadzone - Second Light is the album i've been listening to. Dub is actually a lot better than I thought.

Holy crap almost 10 posts since a techno recommendation!

Okay check this one out: Hardfloor - The Life We Choose. Hadn't really heard much Hardfloor but this is pretty sweet stuff, mid-paced techno on the bleepy / groovy acid tip. Definitely more  :dance1: than  :wall:

It's ok - i've got a soft spot for hardfloor after Acperience nearly blew my poor little marbles on the sound system in the Space back room, but they've not really progressed a great deal in the last 14 years :)

Bubs: Fair enough, having not heard them before it sounds good to me.

Moo: Well hello! How about a selection from the last year or so:

Seba & Paradox - Beats Me (top quality deep dubby breakage style)

Big Bud - Fear Of Flying Remix Project (smooth bassy rolling dnb, very good)

Klute - Emperor's New Clothes (classic liquid / intelligent dancefloor stuff, plus bonus techno cd)

Fierce presents - Dominion (high quality semi-minimal rolling tech-step)

Calyx & Teebee - Anatomy (squelchy catchy tech-funk style)

Various - Juice Blender (hi energy dancefloor tech-step)

Nphect & Dizplay - Beautiful Bytes (heavy atmospheric tech-step)

The Disciple - Good Fortune & The 12th Dynasty Of Mashed Up Reggae Jungle (serious rudebwoy breakbeat junglecore)

Go go go!

Also, get this on the DL and dance like a mofo:

I'm quite a fan of Ugress who hail from Norway.

Best of all they've a number of EP's you can download for free (a new one was made available today which jogged my memory and prompted this post).
