I have just taken delivery of some fine compact discs...

meat katie - lot 49 compilation - i can see myself wearing this out quite fast.
krafty kuts - fabriclive 34 - nearly as good as the above.
two lone swordsmen - wrong meeting II - i'm going to save this for late night driving i think.
richard bartz - live at harry klein - bizarrely, i managed to write 1200 words about a hauntingly beautiful colombian paramilitary drug enforcement officer called esme whilst listening to this over breakfast.

i also have general midi/y4k and a lost vagueness mix still to listen to.

Yeah, will go with those recommendations, particularly the Meat Katie (although I love the Grandmaster Flash accapella on the Krafty).  Very good mix indeed and I have been hammering it since getting hold of it.

I've realised that I love camp music. You know, that type of Caribbean vibe that Lionel Richie was laying down in the 80s, Olivia Newton John's 'Physical' etc.

Can someone please help me forge a playlist of Camp-core tunes? I don't know where to start as the genre doesn't seem to have gathered formal steam yet.

This should definitely be here;

http://ukbouldering.com/board/index.php/topic,6040.0.html

Not sure what you are after as there is little ground between ONJ and Lionel, but you could try;

Wham - Club Tropicana
Kid Creole and the Coconuts
Toto Coelo (?)
Belle Stars
Billy Ocean - Carribean Queen

You were clearly born to late

Monolith, it looks like we have killed this thread by mentioning possibly some of the uncoolest music in recent history.

Cooler but still very camp - you can't go wrong with anything by Arthur Russell writer/producer of some fantastic electro/disco tunes.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arthur_Russell_(cellist)

Stuff like 'Is it all over my face', 'Go Bang' are absolutely brilliant.

You can't go wrong with Larry Levans Paradise Garage LP/CD compilation for a perfect set of camp disco IMHO.

Just a random blast from the past memory came to me; Early Bananarama and Fun Boy Three may be what you are looking for too.

I came across this mp3 a few weeks ago and loved it -

http://www.matadorrecords.com/mpeg/the_cave_singers/cave_singers_seeds.mp3

Quote from: someone on some blog
A song that requires only a few moments before sweeping you away . Vocals on the track jump out in the manner of early Dylan, with the perfect blend of acoustic instruments and electric guitar. There’s also some horns that comes out on the latter half of the song that is to die for.

I've been quite liking some of M.I.A. - Kala

Doesn't really fit into any particular genre i can think of, but has some good moments.

Been a long time coming but finally a new drum'n'bass CD that's remotely interesting. In fact it's more like old jungle than new drum'n'bass but if you need some ruff'n'rude junglist mashup bizzness, *this* could be it.

Scout Niblett ft Will Oldham - Kiss

http://downloads.pitchforkmedia.com/Scout%20Niblett%20-%20Kiss.mp3

A freebie courtesy of pitchfork (ie. legal to download). A warm, melodic track, with two lush voices. enjoy.

Rinseoooot selecta!

All you DNB heads already own Big Bud's excellent smooth rolling "Fear Of Flying" CD, right?? This is a remix CD of that album and is pretty topnotch stuff in similarly smooth and rolling way, but with the tracks suitably different to the original.

Now, a special offer for you lot. This is a pointless double CD with a mixed CD, and an unmixed CD which simply has two less tracks than the mix. I'm going to get it and keep the mixed CD, but I will happily give the unmixed version away to someone who wants it - and I need a volunteer for that. I'm guessing Andi or Ben might be interested but then again I might prefer to give it to someone who I didn't know was into DNB....

OK, just got around to this, it's fucking awesome. Cheers to fiend for bringing that in the car. Nuff niggas just wanna know...
