They said the Glasto set was the last one...then the T in the Park one...then the John Peel one...!

They just can't stop. Wonder what they're going to do now?

I've currently got on: Fabio & Grooverider at Drum and Bass Arena 2004 - quality so far.

Was listenting to Dead Prez - Get free or die trying in the car on the way to work - it's ok, a bit blunt and in your face at times and I don't subscribe to their whole theory that the crack epidemic rife in certain US black communities are instigated and controlled by the white government. Conspiracy theory imho.

That Fabio & Grooverider ones good. Or should I say the Grooverider one is. The Fabio mix is a little soft for me.

Good track that Puppermaster one, sampling 'Predator'. Nice.

got the Skinnyman album friday. Three words: Oh. My. Gosh.

Was anticipating good things after seeing the documentary and hearing snippets of his tracks but the album blew me away. The guy's lyrics are so slick (my particular favorite being his description of himself as "the dogs knackers") and the production is slick, but keeps a grimy edge.

Get this people - you need it in your life.

p.s - any of you soulseek mofos should search for tracks called "Life in my rhymes", "Council estate of mind", "Love's gone from the streets" or "Put in the work" - should give you a good flava.

Just got hold of the Mylo album which is kinda Royskopp meets Daft Punk.

They're doing a gig up here next month - anybody seen them live?

Never heard of Mylo 'til your post but I like Royksopp and some Daft Punk stuff  - will hopefully soulseek it and skinnyman tonight...

Been getting a lot of the old solid steel (ninja tunes) mixes from soulseek too - they're all worth a listen.

Try for Evil 9's new album as well, if you like your breaks - Really good.

Yessir!

P.S. Forgot to mention one of my favourite hip-hop albums:

P Money - Big Things

New Zealand producer working with a variety of NZ MCs - very good stuff, strong beats, immediately catchy tunes, and a fair variety from the epic to the funky.

Ok, next on the list - I love my iPod  :D

Kenny Larkin - The Narcissist

Top quality Detroit techno from the multi-talented Mr Larkin (he's a stand-up comic as well!).

Lo-fi, almost chillout - slow 'n funky 'n nice.

One for the hip hop fans:

Ratatat - Remixes

The equation is simple: take hits by respected commercial MCs (G Unit, Kanye West, Missy Elliott, Jay-Z, Wu-Tang Clan), take away their beats, and add the trademark Ratatat rock-meets-electronic production.  The huge analog synths and stabbing electric guitar are still present, but this time around greater emphasis is placed on hip-hop based synth beats.

...

Yet the low-key, laid back vibe on G Unit's “Stunt 101” and Kanye West's “Get Em High” is the most surprising combination because: a) it makes G Unit actually sound sweet; and b) Ratatat create a better beat than my hip-hop savior KWest on his own song!

Very interesting.

I don't know why i end up recommending hip hop, because my music collection is probably less than 15% hip hop, but...

9th Wonder - God's Stepson

it's good.  get it.

Heard a couple of tracks. Sounds good, maybe a bit more old skool than the last. But it doesn't sound like it took 7 years odd to make!

to be honest im glad its been years. i'm convinced that any albumn brought out as few years after FOTL would have been punky shit. and all the hype and expectation would have made it even more dissapointing. this time round many people anr't expecting as much, and I for one was pleasantly surprised. parrently its all done on Reason this time - you can tell by the sound its not all done on ataris and 303s.

remember baby's got a temper a few years ago was shite, well he'd written some more tracks at that time, scrapped them al when that track bombed ans started afresh.

Oh yeah, forgot about that - might inspire me to try to learn Reason properly again.

Slicker - We all have a Plan

Yuk, self-indulgent, noodly and annoying. Not recommended imho.

Squarepusher - Ultravisitor

Yummy - from funky jazzy bass guitar tracks to the usual Squarepusher mentalist breakbeats. An interesting blend of instruments and electronics.

One of the few people imho who can pull off the Aphex style mix of beautiful sounds and mental beats.

If you like Aphex Twin, have a listen to this.

Thought I'd recommend something a little different to the normal hip hop/breaks.

Cat Power - What would the community think
Lush female vocals over acoustic guitar.  Sometimes sounds quite dark and sinister.  Well worth it if you like Nick Drake etc.

Will Oldham - Any album
Better known as Bonnie Prince Billy, all of Will oldhams stuff is good.  Really interesting character, once I saw him live I appreciated his music on an altogether different level.

Goran Bregovic - Ederlezi
Eastern european gypsy type music.  This album is probably one of the more accessible.  Definitely worth a listen if you are into folk (sometimes fused with crazy beats).
