Font connies
April 22, 2014, 07:44:35 pm
A fair bit of rain hit Paris late afternoon but seemed to be drying out O.K.

What's happening in the forest? Good to go for tomorrow? Early start or wait a bit?

Cheers for any ground reports.

A lot of rain this morning in Paris, but a fair breeze and sunny this afternoon. Anyone in the forest care to tell me where has (or not) dried out. Cheers.

Sabots was wet today, we headed to Mont Pivot instead which dried eventually. Isatis was bone dry on Wednesday, we are headed back there early doors tomorrow. Elephant was dry yesterday, but there was a fair whack of rain last night/this morning.

Cheers, I was concerned about this morning's heavy rain. Isatis probably won't be a good bet for tomorrow unless you have more reliable info.

The wind has picked up a fair bit and the rain has held off. Wanting to try L'angle Ben's and Coquille.

Any chance of anyone in the forest putting up a report tomorrow morning? A bit of rain forecast until about 9ish, but any heads up would be nice. I have a small window and need to be back in Paris to cook some gammon.

two bad choices in mixed conditions. Coquille stays humid longer than the rest, and angle ben's is one of the most conditions dependent 7a's in the forest, and the name is actually a joke about that (uncle ben's rice never sticks...)

some nice quick drying 7a's:

-retour aux sources and tentation @ 95.2.

-belle gueule @mont pivot

-levres de feu @vallée chaude (traverse. check bleau.info for this one)

I've been trying to work out how the joke was a joke for years ("it never sticks" is in the off piste guide I think).

Never thought of oncle/angle...... Thanks!

I'm staying in Chailly-en-Biere at the moment and happy to post up what it's like here in the morning if that helps.

please let belle guele dry our properly though; the last bad hold is actually a thin bridge of a flake that gets rather flexible when wet.
and i still want to do the sit start

Sit Rep not great.

It's pretty grey overhead and there's some slight drizzle about at the moment.

Looking at the forecast it might be alright in the afternoon

Clouds parting and blue sky appearing. Not much wind about but becoming warm with a gentle breeze tomorrow.

Potential goals include La Baleine at Petit Bois, the orange circuit at Apremont, and Beatle Juice and Excalibur at Cuisiniere. We've got tomorrow and Sunday morning left. Any suggestions what we will be able to hit?

If it's rained a lot, i think Petit Bois will be slowest to dry. It's also go more muddy / boggy ground as opposed to sand in other areas.

Personally prefer Cuisinere to Apremont, but that might just be me.

Looked at it the other day but skin is veeeeeery thin. No point even stepping on. Mixed ability group who won't get anything out of Gorge du Houx.

I wouldn't bother with Petit Bois, Apremont usually dries pretty quickly, although not sure about the orange circuit(s). They have a lot of high, polished problems which are treacherous if slightly damp.

Very wet today around Isatis, even stuff under roofs drenched, probably due to condensation as it is a few degrees warmer than the rest of the week.

I went up to 95.2 for a quick evening session - the breeze had stopped

good international scene

the more quartzy, less porous stuff was dry - except in cracks/holes

stuff which was sheltered was still wet

a few of the Oranges at 95.2 were in good nick - probably more will be tomorrow

white 28 sit start was a pleasant discovery

might be worth waiting until the afternoon for stuff to dry out properly - then Elephant might be a goer (nice place to be of an evening, even if friction isn't great)

for the benefit of those not in Font - it has pissed it down all day (and most of yesterday, but I was in Paris and hadn't planned to climb)

for the benefit of those who are in Font - it is due to stop raining after 9 or 10pm tonight, reasonable northerly breeze all night and no precipitation due all day tomorrow - looking like only 4 deg C in the morning...

glad I'm not camping

Secteur Au Four Au Moulin a Milly is also a good bet. Religeuse is a great problem, Pain au Chocolat Aux Amandes is a good bet too.

went to Elephant this afternoon with the kids

mostly dry, due to sun and light breeze - deep pockets/breaks and sheltered stuff still damp - puddles in big pockets on top

most things a bit sandy, obviously, after 2 days of rain - the kids were fascinated by the light glitter layer on the rock

looking at the forecast, first thing tomorrow could be good if condensation doesn't mess it up - and even then, you'd just have to wait for stuff to dry off

Cuvier was dry this am, amazingly so given yesterday's rain. V little humidity I reckon, so I doubt condensation will be a problem tomorrow. Cassepot was also bone dry this afternoon and that's fairly well shaded.

Thanks all. I'll have a look at Drei Zinnen this morning. Strange how quickly the forest is drying out, mind you the last couple of years have been very dry.
