Not sure of the physics behind it, think it's the equivalent of just sitting on a big sprung seat post, think there would be a lot of  :bounce: and energy lost. Full sus designers spend a lot of time providing travel without too much  :bounce:, think rebound would be hard to avoid. Also lateral stiffness would be a big issue, so you wouldn't want to corner too hard.

Excellent engineering.

Significant flaw, in that the rear sprocket is going to be dragged through the mud consistently. I can't imagine why it should not be raised to the top of the wheel (with a brush to clean rim)?

Also the rigidity of the wheel (ergo energy transfer (and to a limited degree, suspension)) could be altered with a simple insert?
Would a softer wheel allow better traction on softer surfaces?
