Some great covers, this is a subject I can go on forever on...The great jazz pianist and composer Billy Taylor wrote the spiritual “I wish I knew (how it would feel to be free)” to his daughter sometime in the 1950s.Dr. Taylor himself recorded the song for his mostly forgotten 1963 album “Right Here, Right Now”. Some time later he and Dick Dallas wrote lyrics to go with the piece, and Nina Simone recorded the song (with vocals) for her album “Silk & Soul” (1968).
