Inflammation?
January 25, 2014, 03:28:27 pm
After suffering from an injured elbow for some time i decided to look into it further and found this:
http://www.t-nation.com/free_online_article/most_recent/the_shocking_truth_about_inflammation

It effectively says treating acute inflammation is doing no good for muscle growth and repair..
Especially icing the injury and using anti-inflam medication - both methods I used to treat my injury.

What do you guys think? Has anyone heard this before?

Also found this article saying the same thing:
http://athleticmedicine.wordpress.com/2013/11/07/why-ice-and-anti-inflammatory-medication-is-not-the-answer/

only read that first one. it has some rather shaky recommendations, in my opinion; eg curcumin, see this:
Mancuso, C.; Barone, E. (2009). "Curcumin in clinical practice: myth or reality?". Trends in Pharmacological Science 30 (7):

or this:

Maier, HM; Ilich, JZ; Kim, JS; Spicer, MT (2013). "Nutrition supplementation for diabetic wound healing: A systematic review of current literature". Skinmed 11 (4): 217–24; quiz 224–5.

hardly "proven" effective?

I spoke with some physios about the icing topic...they all thought this was unscientific and without diligent research...
