F**king vimeo
January 10, 2014, 02:15:45 pm
I constantly have problems with watching stuff on Vimeo, takes for ever to play, potentially 3 times as long as the clip. I get this at home ( average speeds), at work (good speeds)and on the move.

Is it just my internet speed or am i doing something wrong.

Check what version of flash you have installed and that your browser is finding and using the most recent version.

However, the other day they announced that their players were now using HTML5 so you might also want to check that your browser is up-to-date and supports/understands HTML5.

Just went and checked and thats pretty much what they recommend in their FAQ, but there might be some other stuff in there thats useful.

I sometimes have an issue on slower connections.  Turn the HD off.

my computer (on all browsers) has somehow set itself to view Vimeo clips with the html5 player and I can't seem to find a way of reverting back to the old flash player (at least until they cut it off). I find the quality of the hmtl5 player far worse

On the iPad mine sometimes seems to take an age to buffer, and sometimes does quickly, regardless of video lenght and quality.

Bear in mind that bottlenecks can occur at Vimeos end as well as the users end.  If their servers are under heavy load then this may impact on streaming.

Seems like i am not the only one.

Checked what you said slackline and i am fully up to date on it all. And re your last comment Vimeo have a serious issue as it happens to me all the time.

Turning of the HD seems pointless as i thought it was vimeo picture quality that made it preferable to youtube.

Youtube clips seem fine, you can pretty much play them from the off and the render speed is quicker than the watch speed.

Yes, but does it play properly?

No idea if it will make any difference but you could try clearing your cache and vimeo cookies.

If it's all the Monday surfing clips then I imagine the drain on the Vimeo servers is pretty high.

If you get the chance drop your iPad into an Apple Store booked through the Genius Bar , you've moaned about it being dead slow before....
