straight arming foot on ladders ....

aka Steve Mcclure's :

So the questions is should you hold these with a slightly bent arm, ie.e. good form for fingerboard deadhangs or is it OK to straight arm them ?, ie.e. how you would climb if boxed on a route.

Skelf, I dont know - apart from that you are never supposed to straight arm any sort of deadhang.. always with the arms slightly bent.. (its supposed to be very bad for the arms..) It feels a bit weird at first, but makes perfect sense when you climb,.

For that kind of workout you'll normally be transitioning between straight and bent continuously as you go through the sequence. If you're aerocaping on foot-on-campus (i.e. on there for 10min+, shaking out as you go) I just use straight arm most of the time, but then I've got sketchy elbows so make of that what you will.

Which part of the article are you asking about?

If it's the foot-on campusing for PE then you just climb the sequence (1.2.3.4 match and down, or 1.4.6 match and down or whatever else you decide) however you normally climb. It's hard to do it wrong!

If it's the dead-hanging than slightly bent arms, as said above.

I don't think there is anything wrong with straight arm work, even finger boarding, the important thing to do is to engage the shoulders.

I'm on about foot on campusing where you hold each rung for X seconds before doing the next move. Specifically what are everyone's elbows doing during the X seconds of static hold?

Yes I know you have to bend you elbows to get between rungs :slap:.I'm not that daft, just elbow / shoulder cautious as I seem to pick up these types of injuries easier than finger injuries.

Fingers of steel, everything else weak as piss  ;)
