Info says not to use pockets of Ian's Roof - is this for hands and feet or can they be used as footholds?

Posted on the other channel too

Back in the early 90s we used to do Houdini with a kick to get your feet on the side pillar. Presumably the direct avoids this - yes? Not sure about the no pockets eliminate rule.

Slightly off topic but just seen this film:

Which shows Houdini being started with feet already on the left. I'm sure we used to start with feet on the back wall. Maybe it climbs better starting with your feet already on the left?

Ha! That's me in the video! I've done it both ways; starting with feet on the block is slightly easier (for me at least).

The direct version is supposed to eliminate the hanging block. The description on UKC basically says something about not using the pockets of Ian 's Roof and so I wondered if this rule meant for feet too, but the chap who put up the eliminate version explained on the other channel that he included that info to stop people traversing into Ian 's Roof and claiming a tick of the Houdini eliminate!
