Jpeg glitch - can you help?
December 11, 2013, 10:39:45 pm

Good graphics geeks of ukb, can you sort this...(with your awesome photoshop skilz)

Bit of background, it was taken on my phone, and was fine. However, I transferred all my pics onto my laptop (900 odd of them) and a small number of them turned out like this.  Oddly - the original on the phone was also altered, so I'm stuck with it (unless anyone can crop it, alter the colour balance on the two faded sections to match the original, and re stitch.  Beers bought (in sheffield) for good results.

I can send the original if anyone is optimistic of a result.

Yours hopefully...

I don't understand what it should look like? Three separate pictures or just the white balance the same on all of the pictures?

Seems like a weird glitch, what did you use to transfer them?

The two sections on the left that are faded blue are trans posed. I.e. the bottom left section needs to be in the top left and visa versa.  Then it should form a complete picture. .. boys face surrounded by bubbles.

Then the colour balance of the sections on the left need adjusting to match that of the right.

I just used the normal windows Explorer to cut and paste them into a folder on my laptop.  Weird that only a small percentage of them ended up like this.

and they open like that, as in, it isn't just an issue with the preview?

I've never seen an image do that.

I've never seen an image do that.

:agree: If the file were corrupted in some manner during transfer I wouldn't expect such an organised result.  :-\

you didn't install and try out an Instagram type app which chops photos about? or could anyone else have done so?

I've seen this before but it was 2 images combined, same sort of even split between the 2 and what looked like the saturation was ramped up on one half of it.
It's not on my work machine so I'll upload from home later on if I remember.

It wasn't from a phone though, i think it was from a compact camera to laptop over USB, again the original on the camera was altered when I checked.

I've had this on a work camera just before the memory card completely packed in.

The thumnails looked fine, but  some of the main images were corrupt in that exact way, with some just solid black for two thirds of them.

i didn't fix them, so not much help  :sorry:

Thanks to those who got in touch and tried.

The site bubba linked came up trumps and is awesome.  God I love the internet.

best effort came from there in the end.... bit 'brushed' but hey, damn sight better than owt I could do in MS paint or some such.

I have had this happen on a camera before and sometimes multiple copies of the same pic in one frame. The other old chestnut is the thumbnail that looks fine but opens to a black, and only black frame...

Each time it has occurred it was the camera/camera memory card at fault.

Great pic btw, worth the effort.

Cheers - I have an identical one of his brother too - the originals turned out really well so I was going to frame the pair of them, then this whole glitch thing happened. Very annoying.  On a small print I'm not sure you'll be able to tell its been brushed so will carry on with it.

Get both pics to a similar quality and it will look deliberate!
