I dunno, slack---lining is quite good fun. and its an excellent way of improving your balance and core strength, still an amusement rather than a serious pass time though.

I agree, but it has bugger all to do with climbing and it does annoy me a little the way it gets presented in a climbing context, Alpinist devoting 12 pages to it was their low point. For all we know in the tight-rope community he might be seen as a right willy-waver.

Sorry to stray further off topic, but I feel that it is time to look at the SCIENCE of Potter's risk management. Having read what he has to say about his preparations and his life in general, I have noticed that there is one glaringly obvious way in which he can avoid serious injury. Unless my maths/physics is wrong (not likely) then the time taken for Potter to fall any distance greater than 120 feet will allow him enough time to generate enough bullshit to provide a perfectly safe, squidgy (if a little dirty) landing for himself. Initially I tried to calculate whether his hot air output could help him, but soon saw that it is the energy absorbing properties of bullshit that is his real friend.
