Mash-ups

Don't really fit into existing threads, here are some I thought were quite good...

And DJ Riko's - Whistlers Delight does exactly what it says on the tin.

I'm ambivalent about these. Some are quite clever and well done on first acquaintance, but of novelty value and I don't think they stand up to repeat listening. The trouble loves them though, so we have albums full which keep getting played.

One of my favourites from last year:
Genuine Rat - Know How to Drop it Like
JFB vs. Snoop Dogg.
soundcloud.com/genuine-rat/genuine-rat-know-how-to-drop‎

Anything by JFB is generally pretty phat if Electro Wobble Swing is your thing...

Done well and if they sound natural they can be very good indeed. Here's a few of my favourites

Gimme Gimme Gimme (a Man After Midnight) - Abba vs ZZ top

Dirty Roxanne - The Police vs Michael Jackson

Every car you chase - The Police vs Coldpaly

Set you free in new orleans - N Trance vs Watergate

Tupac vs Phil Colins

It wasn't me on Holiday - Madonna vs Shaggy

Some I'd not come across there cheers, like the ABBA/ZZ Top and Madonna/Shaggy.

Another well done one I recently came across...

They're really just a sub-genre of mixing that people have been doing for years and continue to do so.  Most of the ones I originally posted I heard first in mixes that people had put together.

Sticking them on YouTube is simply because people don't have time or money to get permission to release them.  Some who do though and are very good at it are 2 Many DJ's/Soulwas, particularly their Radio Soulwax mixes which are good fun.

There are however some very poor examples out there.

I used to call it the jive bunny effect when something was too sequenced and sounded shoehorned into mixing with something else, 2 many dj's im my opinion used to do this. trying to stretch a song to fit into a 8x4 bar pattern mix that just didnt work.

Always liked Halcyon by Orbital, theres a live version I have somewhere that throws an extra layer into the mix in the form of The Darkness' "I Believe in a Thing Called Love"...

Good one Slackline, that reminds me of the final track on In Sides Disk 2 - US Version (I think)

It's a live version of Halcyon On and On till 5:50, then its mixed up with Bon Jovi and Belinda Carlisle.

They're the same track (albeit recorded at different times).

Can't find an online version where they layer The Darkness over the top of Bon Jovi/Belinda Carlisle, although have it on mp3.
