Magic Wood camping/living costs
August 28, 2013, 10:15:16 pm
Hey can anyone give some info on this?

I'm trying to convince the other half to go to magic wood but is it true that wild camping isn't allowed and that you have to pay 4 Euros per person per night or something like that?

I really want to go there but when you can go to some other areas in France etc and wild camping is allowed, it's making it less appealing. Is it worth it?!

So give it a miss then? My other choices were Alfroide (sp?) or the Targasonne (also spelt wrong).

Will be headed Spainwards after anyway. Certainly going to spend some time at Albarracin in October time...

food is expensive in $witzerland, but you can stop somewhere outside of the country and stock up, we stopped in France and filled the van.  Camping is 5chf or 4euros per person, there are lots of no wild camping signs and possible fines mentioned.
personally thought Magic was good when i went in summer, but i think next time i go back to Swiss I'll wait for the cooler temps and go Chronico and Cresciano which i think are nicer.

Thanks for the replies.

I'd really like to give Swizzy a go whilst I'm on my Europe tour. I hear Chironico might be OK during September temperature wise. Do you still camp at the magic wood campsite or is there one closer?

What do you think makes Chironico better than magic wood? Will it still be reasonably busy at magic wood now as I was hoping to get on the more popular stuff so I could share mats as I'm only taking a couple with me.

Cheers.

They are all ace.

You have to go to magic wood to see and try some great problems in a very concentrated area whilst trying to avoid topless shorty Germans.

Chironico may still be a bit warm and it is move of a chore to walk into some of the areas as it is very much more spread out. It is a bit quieter though but definatley worth a visit and has some excellent climbing with a massive spread of grades and it's a lovely spot. Don't stay in the campsite near cresciano ( which will be too hot) as it costs 45 euros a night!!!! You do get wifi for that though and a swimming pool, wow.

Gotthard 30 mins up the road will be in top condition then and has some brilliant problems which reminds you of wilder parts of Wales as it is a mountain pass. It has some ace problems in the 7's and even have a slightly soft 8a that would be worth having a tickle on!

If you are heading to Spain I would drop into targassonne also as it is great. It will still be warm in sept though but is an ace location and the campsite is great.

Have a great time

Thanks for the replies everyone.

I'm definitely getting more tempted to go now. Someone who's just got back Font said the weather's pretty good at Font at the moment, so I'll probably just make a b-line straight for Font and decide what to do next depending on the weather there!

Do you think that now the school holidays are over that Magic Wood will be really quiet? I wouldn't mind it quieter than Peak season but it'd be nice to still have some people around to socialise with, etc!

Just to update this...

Camping is 5 swiss francs per person, per night. The food at Aldi and Lidl in Thusis isn't too expensive, similar to the UK and at the time of writing fuel isn't too expensive, I think when compared to the UK it's like £1.34/litre.
