Watched all of One Summer tonight and while the volume on my laptop is shit I'm sure that quote isn't in it.

Don't recall that line from anything I've seen

Re "wet on the holds", about 1990, Neil OTE Pearson started a fanzine called Rubble or something, and that quote was on the cover, so long before One Summer.

Great interview.

Feedback? It would be nice to get the acoustics a bit sweeter? There's people on here who know a lot about that. I bet a few little tweaks in the setup would make it sound lots better.

Might be worth sorting out the lighting a bit, find somewhere without direct sun, like by a north facing window or film it on an overcast day. I found myself staring at the burning white mug on the table all the time.

Good interview though, trod the fine between sycophancy and controversy about right. Just next time stick another ten bob in the meter.

Guy said he could of changed to make it have more bass but hadn't done that before.

He said it's worth recording on my  phone as well so he can synchronise to audio, so I'll do that next time.

A separate audio device would help, close to the subject, ideally a digital recorder with foam covered mics. Whatever you use to record sound, location and furnishings have a big impact on sound. However nice your dining room looks, you'll find acoustics are far better (less echo) in a room with soft furnishings. Sofas, carpet, curtains and cushions all absorb echo so improve the sound.

Good work by they way.

I reckon the lo-fi production values and Shark's masterful "is this thing on?" amateur filmmaker act  ;) were instrumental in creating such a relaxed interview.

Voyager low start is more impressive when the Red Chillis are taken into account!

Awesome stuff..... interesting comments on Rich Simpson in particular. Only criticism is it was too short!

Looks OK, maybe next time mix up with some art deco shit. Rock that 1920s look, get Gaskins to wear spats and a dickie.

:agree: What Obi Said... You could also try close/clip-on mics to limit the room acoustics somewhat (if you need mics then lemme know as one of my clients works for a big mic manufacturer so i'm sure I can get them cheap..)

Great interview... Looking forward to his book even more now.

:D

And what was that exactly? "Lot of armchair filmmakers out there"

I was being sarcastic.

The content is important, its very interesting.

Maybe Simon could have considered the 'tape' running out but otherwise its not a bad job. Setting up quickly and filming a broadcast-able interview well is a team effort involving loads of kit and years of experience, and the cameramen are never expected to also do the questions themselves.

We're spoiled by seeing videos made by students with infinite time or over-caffeinated sugary drink company with an infinite budget.

Oh and Guy, yes no problem. It takes ten seconds.
