What are the standard tools / techniques required?? For either expansion or glue-in bolts??

If the expansion bolt has been drilled properly, it'll have an overly deep hole. Remove the nut and hanger (may need an angle grinder) and hammer the stud in. Camouflage/cover with resin mixed with rock dust. Old rusty expansions can also be hit sideways with a hammer, sheared off and camouflaged. If you want to reuse the placement, you can core drill out around the existing bolt, and reuse the now expanded hole.

For glue-ins, it depends. I've been told you can heat the bolt which heats the glue, get it hot enough and it goes rubbery, allowing you to pull the bolt out. Never tried it though. Some bolts you can twist out with a wrecking bar, apparently.

Thanks. I'm guessing for some expansions you could unscrew the nut? I've seen a few loose ones around that looked as if you could do that...

Yes, very old school wedge anchor type bolts have a bolt which screws into a sleeve and holds the hanger on. Not many of these about nowadays (thankfully!).
Removing resins is usually an angle grinder job. If you don't have access to one of these you can try drilling holes parallel to the bolt and wacking it sideways.

Battery grinders are not up to much as yet. They don't tend to last very long but fine if have a few batteries and only a few bolts to chop. Wouldn't want to do a whole route with one.

I gave Norm the grinder last night to remove a couple of worn-through lower-offs at Castle Inn. Told him the batteries were only half charged and that he'd need to fully charge them and even then would only get one bolt per battery. He comes back today, says he chopped four bolts off with two half charged batteries. That guy, probably snapped them with his bare hands.

Fiend - 17mm ring spanner for 10mm expansions / 19mm for 12mm expansions - try twatting the spanner around with a hammer if they're really tight. If the whole bolt just spins in the hole - quite common - the neatest way is to angle grind the nut off. Cold chisel and lump hammer is next best option - chisel the nut in a couple of places and it'll come off; quite knackering. Or least preferably twat the bolt repeatedly back and forth with a heavy lump hammer and it'll eventually snap, but this marks the rock quite badly (and knackers your arm).

Fuckin hell I've vowed never to use that grinder again, it's not good for my stress levels... Norm probably sawed through them with his cock.

He did have that crazy glint in his eye when he returned the grinder!

   :clap2:

Any you would recommend for a beginner SF? I was thinking a placcy bag, a tangerine and a kettle flex.

Yeah, you could start with that. Then perhaps onto one of these 'egg crackers', before moving up to the boy's level.

I can think exactly where one of those could be deployed.

Anyway, it's glue-ins.
