Water tap at Roche aux Sabots
July 19, 2013, 09:38:44 am
Friends told me it was out of order last weekend, with a sign to say so too. Anyone know anything/have any updates?

As far as I know it's the only water tap in the forest and it'd be very useful for my planned car-less trip.

 :please:

Cheers. Sadly not much use without a car. Might remember that for the future though. Let me know if anyone has any updates on the sabots tap.

Where is this tap? I didn't even know there was one. I just happen to have to drop a pair of shoes off to be resoled on Sunday, so if you tell me where it is, I'll have a look.

It's a great big iron water tap/pump with a twist-to-turn-on mechanism, built onto a concrete platform. It's on the grassy area in the middle of the car park, towards the far end where the re-sole van is.

Sorry, I didn't go in the end. It's about 30°c and I couldn't even face getting in the car!

I'm there from Monday. Weather looks awful for mon/tues but should cool off gradually after that. Anyone got any updates on the tap?

FYI: I'm skint, carless and trying to avoid campsites as much as poss - so if anyone knows of anywhere else I can walk to running water for free, shout!

A note of caution. Some years ago I  filled a bottle  from the tap In the square in bois-le-roi on my way to Canon.

That evening (possibly as a result) I lost so much fluid so quickly (don't ask!)  that I briefly passed out .

Sweet. Cheers lagers. Hadn't known about that one. Could try hitching and dossing around there for a bit then as well as (hopefully) sabots.

Let me know if anyone has an update. Posted on bleau.info too.

Cheers guys. I think my new plan is going to be to go and doss around those parts. Water on site and Larchant apparently has a bakery and is an easy walk away.

Best find out where the nearest campsite is now in case I get desperate.

This was a big win. Cheers for the Beta. Had an awesome week living in the forest.

Just thought I'd add some knowledge for the archives. While the tap at Roche Aux Sabots is out of order (which it was on Sunday), there is a tap inside the graveyard which is just behind.

It's fairly well frequented, and if you visit, do it quietly and repectfully. Don't be joking, talking loudly or stripping down for a tap-wash in front of mourners and grave-tenders like a total fucking dick.

P.s. the state of the area around the car park at Sabots is sickening. I did some cleaning up at elephant, including an old pair of walking boots!

Cheers again guys. Awesome week.  :great:
