hey

so we stayed in soughia on the south side of the island, the one of the barman in this little place is an utter monster and wrote the climbing in chania guide (look for the bar with the beastmaker hanging up behind the bar), i have a copy but its in greek so not much use. there some bouldering near there which is all pretty apparent from the road, the roman town of paleochora just along the coast has some good stuff amongst the ruins and a great beach. kandanos and kambanos are both pretty good too. basically you need a hire car! the akrotiri peninsula on the other side of the island seems to be the main climbing area but we never made it there so cant comment on that. dont think theres any where you can hire matts btw. also a general crete hint, there are almost no cash machines!

hope thats of some use

thanks for the replies, we are staying in Agia Pelagia in the north, we do however have a hire car, no mat mind, was just hoping it would be like Rhodes with nice bouldering on beaches

Cheers Ardeer
Thats really useful - I'm off to Crete on honeymoon towards the end of Sept (which means I probably will not be allowed to boulder but I can still try!) and will try and sniff out some of these places...
:)

much as I would appreciate the beta you should perhaps focus your attention elsewhere...

SHe'll be glad to see the back of me for a couple of hours when I start getting annoyingly fidgety on the beach ;)
