Bouldering Near Dundee
June 22, 2013, 12:42:28 pm
Will be working in Dundee next week and wondered if anyone could tell me where the best bouldering areas around there are please? I've seen the new Glen Clova stuff thread but would be keen for some harder stuff. Cheers.

Nice one. How far is that (I should know but it's been 20 years since I was there). Where can I find info about the stuff there?

Dundee to Portlethen in under an hour no problem, not much longer than it would take to get to clova due to the road up the glen.

"Bouldering in Scotland" guide (by Stone Country) would be your best source for a quick-hit.

Craigmarroin or Clashfarquhar would see you okay for quality harder stuff.

Are there any other sources of info on problems, as I can't really justify buying the guide for what will probably just be one or two evening hits?

Andy, I'm afraid this is the best source for Clashfarquar.

http://www.ukclimbing.com/logbook/crag.php?id=8738

Most of the new stuff at Clash and Cammachmore isn't in the Bouldering in Scotland Guide anyway. If you find yourself up this way. give me a shout and I can try and meet up.

There is some harder stuff done in Clova area, but not written up yet.

have a look through these;

Pow Kebbuck (Sharmasheugh) might be OK, but apparently it's pretty conditions dependant, and actually dries better in winter when the sun is low in the sky!

I'll see if I can find the topo.

 If you find yourself up this way give me a shout and I can try and meet up, can point you at boulders, but not the best person for beta for higher grades.

Wanted to go check that out, looks like a disappointing finish though? :(

You mean ending it by matching on the shelf? I think that's the nature of the bouldering there. Guess you could finish by mantelling onto it, but I've not been so can't really comment.

Ye doesn't look like a satisfying sinker jug, may seem a more obvious finish in the flesh though. Still keen, looks nice and steep.
