We went to see Primal Scream at Beach Ballroom last month. They actually did really well, good gig and good venue, but he was struggling with voice a bit, and needed some help in some places. Best thing was seeing a flock of aging blokes who haven't changed hairstyles since Madchester days. Move on guys.

I missed The Coral at the Sugarmill in Stoke last weekend. Great intimate venue, would have been a blinder - gutted!!

I would definitely be going as its close to home and you can buy day tickets but we'll be away. However, we (me and children) will be going to the Green Man - http://greenman.net - for the tenth consecutive year. I reckon this is a pretty fine effort. They were 9 and 13 the first year and are both now adults. The youngest will get her A level results on the Thursday, the day we'll be arriving ... hopefully that will kick off a fine start to another great weekend.

The only band I've seen live this year is my sister's band, PINS (shameless plug, http://www.wearepins.co.uk/ ). Was great to see them live again, they were headlining so could do what they wanted and put on an awesome show, piling into the audience for guitar solos, stage invasion by fans, security panicing.

As a family, we are off the Wilderness Festival, looking forward to Robert Plant, The Flaming Lips doing "The Soft Bulletin" and Goldie doing "Timeless". I'm also really excited to see "The Flying Seagulls" with my daughter, the most engaing and fantastic circus act, http://www.theflyingseagullproject.com/.

went to see him at City Hall in Sheffield a few years ago and it was easily the best live performance of anything that I have ever experienced

Saw the Stone Roses on weds night. Belting. Best bit was looking around the crowd and watching people of a certain age in their own little world, re-living some past moments. Superb.

Been to a couple of gigs in the last month... Sleep at the Forum.  Super heavy and great  but I missed their hypnotic Carl Sagan Cosmos backdrop that played throughout their performance the last time I saw them up in Leeds a few years back. 

Last Monday went to see Rangda at Cafe OTO. Ben Chasny (Six Organs), Sir Richard Bishop (Sun City Girls) and Chris Corsano (Skullflower, Sunburned Hand of the Man, etc. etc.) played their awesome psyche freakout in the best music venue in the UK.  Quiet audience, no phones, no talking perfect....

Some punk rock coming up.  Flag on August 1st then TSOL, the Dwarves and M.D.C on the 3rd both in the filthy sweatbox of the Underworld.

Sun Kil Moon at the RNCM, Manchester, this Thursday just gone, has been this year's highlight - so far. With Steve Shelley on drums, as usual, and Justin Broadrick, of Jesu, on guitar, this was a beautiful, ever surprising  three hour set.

Bumped into a friend/colleague just before it started and he told me he'd been collared to give Steve Shelley a Beatles themed tour of Liverpool today - how fucking cool is that!

Just listening to a little Rangda/Sir Richard Bishop now - excellent.

Went to Y Not festival at Pikehall in Derbyshire over the weekend. A very nice set up and "not-too-big" a festival with a good range of music on offer, not necessarily all to my liking but stuff there to meet most needs. Notable acts included The Hives doing what they do best in terms of filling their set with live festival music cliches (in a good way), Noel Gallagher not knowing which country he was in let alone which county, Madness doing a Sunday headline slot, and a few other good sets from the likes of Vant. Managed to miss Mike Skinner though.

Saw Jason Isbell (ex of Drive By Truckers) last night. It was a great show - I've always been a bit of sucker for Southern rock/Americana and Isbell does that very well - but as much as that, amidst the 2016 US election cycle, this was also a fascinating cultural experience seeing as the show took place in Hershey in the heart of central Pennsylvania. This is deep Trump country (representative sign seen on the way: "If you're voting for socialism, then get out of my country") and no doubt many of the overwhelmingly white male audience are going to vote for him - it was almost a little unnerving, even if some of it was just me projecting. Living here through this election is endlessly fascinating!

Seen a few good acts over the last couple of months. Mostly jazz, but some listenable stuff too.

Vulfpeck in Vicar Street: Amazing live band and great atmosphere, particularly when the audience started singing their stuff back to them, don't think that was expected. One of the best gigs I've ever been to.

The Headhunters in the Sugar Club: The day after Vulfpeck, so the previous gig probably coloured my view, but it was a bit crap. No energy and aimless noodling with longs gaps between tunes. Very disappointing.

Earth Wind and Fire in 3Arena: Belting out the classics. Not exactly frantic, but a good energy and Philip Bailey can still deliver the goods. Good gig.

Jack Garrett at Electric Picnic: Brilliant. For a solo multi-instrumentalist/sampling type person, he puts on a hell of a show. Was well impressed.

Very excited for Kurt Rosenwinkel and Wayne Shorter gigs coming up in the next month or two.

Stars of the Lid at Nottingham Contemporary on Tuesday night was absolutely great - to say I loved it would be an understatement. For those not in the know they are a drone\minimal\ambient band - Tuesday night featured a string quartet, two guitars and two keyboards which were connected to this (can not get the image to load in the thread for some reason...  ) with which they produced some truly massive earthshaking drones at times! Given that the venue was pretty much a concrete bunker (it is more art gallery than music venue) you can imagine how that felt!
