The Cam Doctor UK Stockists?
February 01, 2011, 03:42:55 pm
I've tried searching for a UK stockist of The Cam Doctor Wire Repair Kits but can't find any yet (CragX/V12/Needlesports/Outside).

Anyone know of any shops in the UK that stock these?

Cheers, that site wasn't up when I asked (I did check), looks cheaper to buy and post from US anyway.

When I ordered they arrived much quicker than the stated international shipping, about five days if I remember correctly.

I ordered from the site I linked originally and they arrived in about five days via international shipping.

As for their use they work ok, but I've found it tricky to get the clamping of the two bits of wire together tricky and also find that if you have to replace the wire that goes through the cam there are problems with them staying in as when they are manufactured they are placed from the opposite side and won't pass all the way through.

Nice one. Thank you. Would you recommend it then in light of the limited alternatives?

Its not massively expensive for a kit, and theres a fair bit of cable/wire/swedges for the price so you can play around, but perhaps the best indication would be that of the three cams I've tried repairing myself, none live on the rack I take out and are sat in a bag waiting to possibly be re-wired by DMM if I can be arsed (I already have replacements for two of the sizes anyway and the third is a 1.5 which is generally covered by the 1.25 and 1.75 I carry).

Some all of my cams are over 10yrs old so they won't touch them so fixing them myself is my only option.
I'll give it a go. Thanks for the input.

I don't think anyone in the UK/Europe offers resinging after 10 years. I blame the EU.

Mountain Tools in the US get good reports. I don't know if they post internationally but as they only charge $7 a pop it might still be cost-effective if they do.

Best repair for trigger wires is light strimmer cord or heavy fishing line which are stronger, more flexible and longer lasting than the original wire. Cut a slightly over-long piece, thread through the lobes and trigger bar, melt the ends into little blobs to stop them pulling through the cam lobes.

I've got some i fixed with strimmer wire too, had it in place for about 4 years of regular use and still good (although not been used much of late!).

I quite like the idea of singing cams, very soothing on long run-outs I imagine.
