Problems in the peaks with kneebars...
April 28, 2013, 11:11:45 pm
Good evening ukb, I'd like to call upon some peak knowledge and wisdom. Basically i bought one of those 'controversial' 5.10 knee pads for use on ben's roof, (un)fortunately I ended up sending it much quicker than expected and now feel that to justify the £40 price tag I should use it LOADS!

So essentially could anyone recommend me some good boulder problems 7A-8A in the peaks that use knee bars?

cheers

Dark room has loads, as well as andronicus there's use for one on titus/king cannibal and hannibal corner. Mecca is basically bouldering. I found a way to make huffy's roof easier using one - maybe 7b+ now? Supersize me still feels hard but presumably can't be more than 8a with my beta and now uses a knee on each leg (careful, the first one will rip Tue 5 10 pad). Addiction at roche abbey. Phoenix at anston.
Or drive to Wales and, from the sounds of it, forest rock

It's peak, not peaks....

Blind Ali
Nigel's at secret garden
Grand Doigts
Roof right of Jason's undercling, burbage.
Trackside/sidetrack
Banana reverse

None of these are kneebar critical though.

Where the fuck are people kneebaring on powerband?

The Kid at RHS? Again, not knee-pad essential.

I think as long as it's not within a SSSI and the landowner has given consent it should be ok. Otherwise go incognito by wearing it under your pants.

Lefthand Man - Secret Garden
Bo Bridges - Reynard's Cave
Blood Fall - Rowtor

Last but not least Thigh Master - Cratcliffe. On this you need to pull the pad up high and do a thigh hook

Forty quid!!!

You can get a good quality pair of comfy durable grippy caving kneepads for 10 to 15 quid. Work a treat for your kneebaring needs.

Bonjoy, am I right in thinking you and Dan V did something up near dark room which involved knees? Or have I been inhaling too much shoe goo whilst sticking rubber to things?

See http://www.hitchnhike.co.uk/acatalog/knee_and_elbow_pads_for_caving.html

The warmtex is certainly more grippy than the neoprene and you probably want the velcro adjustable ones for a tight fit so nearer 40 than 15.

Would work well though.

There's lots of potential there, but it all takes a lot of cleaning. Access is a a bit dodgy too I've heard. That said you're unlikely to get rumbled on a bouldering visit as you're very hidden from view.
