 I actually think it's a bit too far. The desire for sponsorship, is leading people to do more and more 'knife edge' stuff. This is the top end of a 'mountain buzzing' era, which has caused several deaths over the past couple of years of some really experienced jumpers. (We used to track as far away from rock as we could!) There are so many variables in flight, if he keeps doing this stuff he's not going to be around much longer.
I wonder if he would do that on his own with no filming/publicity?

I doubt Polli needs to do this stuff for sponsorship or fame. He has in fact been quite publicity shy considering he's probably the best tracker in the world right now and one of the best WS'ers. Sponsors weren't even mentioned in the vid, which is not the best way to attract big bucks. (One of his main sponsors is 5.10 BTW)

Surely the same can be said for anyone at the cutting edge of any "dangerous" sport? I think their prime motivator is doing it for themselves, not for fame, glory or sponsors.

I don't see close proximity wingsuit flying as any different to climbing.

You know the risks, you know your limits. For some people pushing those boundaries are a way of feeling alive. Occasionally people luck out, just like climbing. It's part of the game. You play because you want to, because it makes life worthwhile.

Proximity wing suit flying is i reckon the most heart thumping, adrenaline rush, video footage on the web.

Exactly. There are many dark horses in the world of base, and many 'boundaries' are pushed by people going under the radar by the big populace. Lines like the ones after the 3 minute mark here are balls deep and extremely dangerous and committing. However, i doubt these guys did it for fame or sponsors.

FWIW, Polli has been around for a while and got the skills and cojones to do what he did. He's not just a 'somebody' chancing it to be famous.

I didn't mean to imply that was the case. I've been around long enough in the DZ world to know who he is. Perhaps I was a bit harsh about the sponsorship business, and I stand corrected. I guess what I was trying to say, having been 'falling' without style for over 10 years, the 'edge' whether wingsuit base, or swooping is getting to a point where its resulting in a lot of fatalities and I do cringe a lot more.

Just balancing the "Wow that looks amazing" of BASE, wingsuit and proximity flying videos, which is what I think when I see videos, with the reality of when it goes wrong.  The former get more views and likes/+1's than the later.

I looked into paragliding lessons. But fuck that. Have you seen the price those people charge for teaching you to throw yourself off a big hill!?

If anyone here has kit and inclination to tandem or teach someone, give me a shout. I am well up for it.

Cool!!! I was there as well, (at the boogie, not the jumps in the vid) but found that in between the hangovers and the weather holds it wasn't the most productive skydiving holiday i've done...
