While this thread is reawoken, I have a very irritating squeak in the drivers side door. Short of WD40'ing everything I can reach, is there anything I can do without taking the door panel off? Would I be better off just turning the radio up?

Reminds of the cartoon I saw in a garage once - "the bad news is I couldn't fix your brakes, the good news is I've made your horn a lot louder!"

As I have had some luck selling things through ukb recently I thought I would put up my car that I'm trying to sell. It is a Fiat Panda 100hp, for more details see the eBay listing that is currently up, https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.co.uk%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F333110756314.

It has been a reliable and cheap motor for me. Needs the oil topping up and occasionally the offside rear break caliper sticks (think it just needs a clean and grease) however apart from that it is good to go. It has full service history and has had the cambelt and water pump done a couple o years ago.

If any ukber would like to buy then just send me a pm. I will be happy to stop the eBay listing early and sell for any reasonable offer.

Those are really cool, if you're in the market for a small car look no further.

Yeah, if I could convince the missus (spoiler alert: I won't) I would take it like a shot to replace our knackered-but-still-won't-die Fabia.

I now have to drive and park in an annoyingly tight multi storey which I know is going to end in bleary eyed disaster. I'd love a little Panda 100hp (/similar) but currently changing the vRS just doesn't make sense (although it is due a service, 2 rear tyres (just had the fronts), 4-wheel alignment and then the MOT a month later). :worms:

I know someone who's keen to get shot of a knackered-but-won't-die Skoda Fabia Paul.

Just to reinforce my impending feeling of doom...

Driving to work this morning something in the (Peugeot Partner) gearbox felt like it changed position and I couldn't shift into second or first. This has happened periodically in the past but gets fixed by wiggling the gearstick. Not this time. For the rest of the drive to work shifting between gears felt noticeably different to previously and it was significantly clunkier going into second. It still drives fine but I can't escape the feeling that something has got worse in there...

Its going to the garage tomorrow for a look but I've got no idea what it might be beyond the nuclear option of fucked gearbox and/or clutch. Hoping it can wait until next week, whatever it is as I have a fair amount of driving planned this weekend. Anyone got any predictions?

Sorry no knowledge from me spidermonkey, just a question of my own:

the low oil light came on the other day on my 08 Audi A3 - topped it up but the light's still on - is this something that would just need resetting by a garage, or is there possibly something worse going on?

I'd take it to the garage ASAP to be safe, the oil light is usually a low pressure indicator, not a level indicator, so low oil level will will make the light come on, but may not necessarily be the only cause, if you know what I mean. It could mean the oil pump is on the verge of failing or there is a leak in the circulation system somewhere, and insufficient lubrication can result in a failure that will be very costly.

With some fiddling / googling you can get some cars to show a list basic diagnostics, and there will be a list online of what the codes mean. I've done it with our old ford focus but the information it provided showed no faults, so it needed plugging in at garage for a full diagnosis.

How much did you put in? Mine sometimes needs a full litre before it goes off.

Put half a litre in, checked level and it was just below the middle of the dipstick. Drove it across town and light still on, so added another half litre. Now is near the max on the dipstick so don't want to add anymore, light still on though.

As SA Chris says it could be low pressure / issue with pump. I ignored an oil light once and totally fucked the engine

I've not driven it since, the nice weather has been conducive to using the motorbike this week.

Book it in the nearest garage and drive it there very slowly, preferably outside of busy traffic.

Or get it towed there.... low oil pressure can be the death (or be a symptom of the death) of an engine... call the garage first.

cheers all, bit more worried now than when I asked! It's booked in to the garage down the road on tues, won't need to drive it before then. Garage didn't seem too concerned, so fingers crossed.

So after I attempted to drive home last night and the entire gearbox went 'floppy' and got stuck in 5th, resulting in a tow back to the garage it was booked in at this morning...the upshot is a few linkages have come loose and the ball that sits at the base of  the gear level has come off. Total cost should be in the realm of £100ish which feels like a result after it get towed last night!

Sounds like dodging a bullet. I just got a major service done on the van yesterday that was over 4 x that much!
