Small PC's
November 26, 2012, 03:58:47 pm
looking at getting a micro form factor PC, something like an asus eeebox or similar.
Anyone got experience of these?
Budget of around £100 as its going to be the kids computer (so I can get mine back!)
Preferably without an optical drive as its just dead space.
Cheers

The Foundry just got a Zotac Ion which has been teamed with a 120Gb SSD. It was only set-up today so all I can say is it boots damn fast! I'd looked at them to use for XBMC but had the pesky problem that it doesn't have anything other than HDMI (unlike my TV!).

They are on sale 'this week only' on overclockers for £95 minus drive + RAM but were less during 'Black Friday' (I'd dare say you might have some RAM and a 2.5" drive kicking around anyhow?).

Acer Revos also looked pretty good for HTPC use etc.

With a budget of £100 best make sure you get an OEM version of M$ with it as a license will set you pack upto half of that (How to Buy Win7 for < £50 could only find upgrade offers for Win 8 in the two seconds I searched for M$ prices and that was £25).

Call me clairvoyant but I don't think Jim will be budgeting for an OS.

Yes, as Johnny says, an OS isn't going to break any deals.
I'm after just hardware, if win 7 is included then that would be a bonus but I want to stick to the £100 budget
