Quick question - Dangerous Crocodile...
November 04, 2012, 10:10:01 pm
Quick question - does anyone know what size cam you need for the break under Dangerous Crocodile/Clipperty Clop at Ramshaw.  The UKC database suggests you need a 6 rather than a 5.  Is this right??
Cheers.

I used a WC size 6.
Is that plank old or new? Mark S found an old plank down the easy corner to the left of DCS and we spent ages trying to hook it out with slings and nut keys. So much so that I nearly ran out of daylight! We were under the impression it was the famous plank.......
Cant remember what we did with it though as I did not even need it.

In the olden days this was often (normally?) soloed as no-one had big enough cams/they didn't exist.

True, true.
But could you not have just used thicker planks? ;)

We were obviously thicker than the planks.

A WC number 6 cam is ideal although back in the day when none of us had one we used smaller cams (WC number 4 and 5) placed further right along the break, and deeper, then extended them with a long sling, it gave a bit of rope drag but would probably be OK if you had more about you than we did!

jordan,i like to think it was 'the' plank.

like gus says,if you have no big cam.use a big sling or i think we might have used a rope as it was 8 or 10 foot long.
its more gear for the mind as once you are on the arete you are on your own.its useless for the upper section.#
still a highlight as ive never done a route anything like it.remember it being a pumpy route even though its short
