Google Drive
September 30, 2012, 09:07:06 pm
Has anyone else had a problem getting this to work?

I clicked the download link and the installer completed successfully but it simply won't run. I have nothing in the systray and if I monitor task manager sorted by the CPU I can see googledrivesync.exe run for a split second before disappearing.

I can't seem to find any useful tips on resolving this. Naturally I've tried a reboot, a re-install, a win-update a java-update and cleaned the reg using CCleaner.

Don't you just bloody love it when things "just work".

Must admit I think they're missing a trick not offering something like additional storage for 10cs a Gb, or just 25GB deal for $2.50/month. Its a big jump to 100Gb.

Microsoft's Skydrive is 7GB free, works great.

In case you haven't done this, you can get another 3GB free on dropbox by uploading 3GB of pics (I did it overnight). You delete them straight away, keep the space.

I've got 5Gb that way so far. (don't ask me why or how  ).

Box was the one to get though when they were offering 50Gb free for just installing their mobile application.

Has anyone else had a problem getting this to work?

Is this some way of mounting google drive locally or synchronising a directory with the google drive?

Especially when they're free!

It looks like an issue with the latest edition. Basically the application starts and closes instantly. There's no fix as of yet without rolling back to an older version of GD that I can't see on a Google distribution channel (there's no way I'm using a version found elsewhere with my Google account!). I'll live without for now.

Is there a way to stop one file in the Dropbox folder uploading?

I'm using it as an off-site backup option for my thesis working directory and every time I re-run LaTEX it generates a huge postscript file, this is then uploaded clogging drop-box (and probably nailing my bandwidth simultaneously). I can't really move it out of the folder.

Right click and pause dropbox?

Yes but only on the computer you disconnect, and what else is changing on that computer whilst you are doing this work (besides the source LaTeX files)?

Get things ship-shape as you want them, then re-enable syncing on that computer to get the source LaTeX and the final .ps synced.

other things, figures etc.

I see what you're saying it'd just be helpful if I could block the one file without having to manually delete it every time. Maybe it could be automated with a batch script but its a bit late in the day for faffing.

If the filenames aren't changing at all...

Code: [Select]
# my_pdflatex
#!/bin/bash
pdflatex thesis.tex
rm thesis.ps

Save this in the same directory as the file you're processing then fire up a terminal, cd to that directory and...
Code: [Select]
chmod 0755 my_pdflatex
./my_pdflatex

No idea how to do the equivalent under M$ I'm afraid.
