Swiss Road Trip
August 09, 2007, 12:36:56 pm
Alreet y'all. I'm heading out to Switzerland for 3 weeks in September and was wondering if anyone could recommend some areas to visit - Please, not Magic Wood! Does anyone know what the current issue is with Ticino and has anyone ever climbed at Fionnay and Plex?

Could be keen for some routes as well - Voralpse, Engleberg, Lehn? Any others?

cresciano (hot-ish), chironico (fresher), san gottardo (ahh...brrrr) as far as ticino goes. all areas with no access problems but dont camp there.
problems in other "secret" areas (dosage III and IV areas) like brione and verzasca. do not go there.
no clue about other areas, but these will keep you busy fo a while. like a lifetime.

the only things ive found online are here

its in polish, but have two small topos (cresciano and chironico) that may help you for a few days...

Buy the Bloc Heart guide by Harald Roker? This covers bouldering in the the areas you are asking about and surrounding places. It's not the greatest guide ever but does a decent enough job of allowing you to find places and have enough info for a few days - we did 4 days at Cresciano and 1 at Chironico with it.

san gottardo (ahh...brrrr)

Intersting. Where abouts is it and does ahh...brrrr mean it could be chilly in summer and therefore a good venue?

Its past chironico up the valley, much further up the valley. a lot higher altitude than chironico and magic wood.
It looks like a good venue for the summe. I will be going in 3 weeks so will report back

Jim, what dates are you heading out? Is this yours and the missus's love trip or you out with the lads? I'll be out with Pidgeon, Geordie Bruce and Ginger Prince Hudson from the 4th-24th. Thinking of checking out San Gotardo, would be good to hook up. Is there anywhere else on your hitlist?

Drop me a Prime Minister.

Word.

J.
