Not sure if this has been on here before but my friend recently told me about a way of working out hard a link up of two boulder problems would be... using x=(y+z+4)/2 ;D
e.g.  If there was a V12 into a V12... =(12+12+4)/2 = 28/2 = V14   or...   V9  into V9 = (9+9+4)/2 = V11
Might not work for all grades but hope this helps anyone out there!

So a v0 into a v12 is a v8 ;)

v7 - v8 - 4 = v19 / 2 = v9.5. hmmmm.

but yeh in some circumstances it works.

V7 + V8 = V9/10...nothing wrong with that example.

not keen on slash grades, but yeh hopefully my stupid example doesn't detract from the point that this system isn't that useful.

What do these V numbers mean?

  • Largely broken. Obsolete spares and scrap only.

What do these V numbers mean?

Something to do with the number of cylinders, I think...

Can we stack this equation within itself?

((v3+v3)+4)/2=v5

so

((((v3+v3)+4)/2 + ((v3+v3)+4)/2 ) +4)/2 = v7

AND

((((((v3+v3)+4)/2 + ((v3+v3)+4)/2 ) +4)/2) + (((((v3+v3)+4)/2 + ((v3+v3)+4)/2 ) +4)/2) +4)/2 = v9

Hopefully I didn't miss too many parenthesis :)  I'm not sure it works......  What if there's a good rest vs. no rest?

Maybe it should be:

x=(y+z+n)/2

Where n is the quality of rest between the two?

surely n would be a coefficient...?  ;)

Try this:

Va + N×Vb/Va = Vc

where Va > Vb and 0 < N < 2 is the coefficient of rest (0 = hands free rest, 2 = no rest)

Works every time.
