The terms matching and sharing seems to be used interchangeably by some climbers while others seem to consider them as two different but similar things.
I considered sharing as joining hands side by side on a large( i.e. room for two hands side by side) hold while matching is swapping hands on a smaller (room for only one hand) hold.
Or is the distinction pointless?

Matching usually indicates getting the same hold or a hold at the same level close to the other hold, similar to sharing. I'd call swapping hands on a small hold a hand-swap. Remember Dave's golden rule: catch it, match it, dispatch it.
