Erm, I don't really understand your post with relation to mine imarenzi. What I was saying was were the comments made by the Swedish guy with regards to the terrible films by the talented in climbing but as dull as ditchwater and less gangsta than me guys regarded as a rant or mere observation?

Can we have a link to this rant/ sensibly expressed opinion?
It was on a blog.  The interview contained a number of sensible opinions expressed in a, uhm, outspoken way—but most of it is of local interest only.  Your swedish is perhaps a bit rusty anyway?

Split topic from "significant repeats"

Dense, I think that it is a bit of a rant because I see people appropriating language and mannerisms all the time and its just part of contemporary culture. I don't think its pretending you are a gangsta rapper or that you grew up in Compton, it just amuses those who indulge in it.

As to the question about what sort of personality these climbers may or may not have, I have no idea. I never saw the vid in question, but they are all a bit like that, and I am very happy to take your word for it that this particular offering was dull as ditchwater.

when Dense said "ditchwater", I'm sure he meant the bit of water in the bottom of the LA storm drains that shoots up in a sheet of silver when you drive a police car through it really really fast - obviously, when there is no car present, the water is pretty dull - to some people it is still pretty cool

Dull ditch water

"Cool" ditch with tags and stuff

There must be a Dense equivalent in Gang World. I can just see it...

"Yeah, I went to South Central Los Angeles and cruised around in my super fly Benz with a gat in my lap. It was shit. I won't be going back."

Some use of ironic gangsta speak is/was funny. The trouble with irony is that it wears off quickly and you end up becoming that which you were satirising.

To be fair I reckon most the the longrunning ironic faux-gansta patois on this forum from the early days hasn't been prevalent for maybe the last half decade.

To be fair I reckon most the the longrunning ironic faux-gansta patois on this forum from the early days came from me, D Piddy.

Dave touches on the problem. He's a dyed-in-the-wool bona-fide original rude boy so his gangsterisms are accepted, because that's always been Dave, but these new kids on the block just don't get it, nothing original about them. Word.

Some use of ironic gangsta speak is/was funny. The trouble with irony is that it wears off quickly and you end up becoming that which you were satirising.

I experienced a nasty dose of this when "Awesome" moved from it's ironic home in the phrase "Awesome Wednesdays" (down the Awesome Wall, Stockport) to populate my everyday vocabulary.

It got embarrassing, but it's really hard to stop once you've got going  :wall:

Personally I find that massively overdoing it, and adopting an even posher, terribly British accent keeps me from actually become that which I satirize. Sup yo sick blood word.

But then you just sound like a non ironic proper posh boy wanna be. You can't beat Irony slippage, its like entropy. It will always win in the end..

Nah usually do the sort of take hand away to simulate explosion kind of thing.

I do enjoy saying "sahlid" a lot though, I seem to be able to fit it into virtually any conversation. See how I did that?

I like the idea of PATRul dancing around the ring letting his semi connected wordslush rattle off his tongue in a Mohammed Ali style; taunting poor little Rich Simps about his reputation

any chance of a video to go with this

When I was a kid people used to cover me in chocolate and cream and put a cherry on my head. Yeah, life was tough in the gateau
