So heading up to the Peak for Jubilee long weekend, already mega-excited - only my 3rd time there but kind of already love the place.

Only real goal is Joe's Arete as have had 2 failed sessions on it so far, but think I'm actually climbing pretty well at the moment for a wall-rat bumbly and was getting close last time before the rain hit...
But was wondering how busy it will be - are we talking queues 5-deep for each line, or just sharing the area with a few other groups?

Have been flicking through the guide book - and was also looking at Cratcliffe and Stanage as areas with lots in our sub-6b grade range, but again - will our dreams of peaceful countryside bouldering be shattered?

  • Its meant to be hard
upper tier might be a bit busy but i cant see 5 deep to be honest. Just head down the skyline if its busy plenty down there and no one ever seems to bother with it as its a bit further away.

There will be no queing for routes/problems as it will be raining ;)

The Peak has enough qwalidy rock to soak up the masses ~ you may just have to avoid some of the honeypot sites like Stanage...

Never seen anywhere busier than this to be honest, apart from the odd time when you get one very big group.  due to a Uni bus trip or stag do etc, Generally easily avoided.

Joe's arete is getting really polished though, clean those boots peeps.

Usually the biggest problem on busy days is finding somewhere to park! It's not unheard of for folk to give up and drive to other crags. Fortunately there are loads of other great crags close by.

even on busy weekends, the popular crags and bouldering areas seem to be a bit quieter after 6pm - worth saving some skin and beans for that evening session - especially if there's a decent breeze howling gale to keep the midges away

  • Getting fatter, not fitter.

Or get there early (9am) because the parked cars also carry walkers and families out to the Park, not just climbers. Cratcliffe/Robin Hoood's Stride is a wonderful location for font 4/5/6s btw. And you can nip round to a choice of stone circles for a an apres-boulder commune with nature. Or a pint in a country pub if you prefer.

Yeah, was looking at Cratcliffe - always torn between returning to an area to tick previous fails, or heading somewhere new...

Meh - got 4 days, maybe 50/50 it.

Cheers peeps - maybe see you up there :)
